PHOTOS: Royal Media Services reaps big at 10th AJEA Media Council Awards
The gala was held at the Safari Park Hotel on Friday.
The chief guest at the awards was Court of Appeal President Daniel Musinga and Auditor General Nancy Gathungu was the keynote speaker.
AJEA are a continuous annual recognition and celebration of journalistic excellence and achievement in Kenya.
The awards have been given since 2012 for print, broadcast, and now digital journalism.
Here is the list of RMS journalists who won awards, along with their stories:
1. Guns Galore by Purity Mwambia (Reporter), Jamila Mohamed (Producer/Editor), Linus Kaikai (Group Editorial Director), Steve Kiprono, John Gitonga and Dan Irungu (Cameramen), Cliff Moses and Jane Githae (Video Editors) for Citizen TV
2. Debt of Shame by Ben Kirui, Waihiga Mwaura and Leah Wambua for Citizen TV
3. Mwenye Mukuru Nani by Zipporah Kariuki for Inooro Fm/Radio Citizen
4. Mikakati ya Mihadarati by Zipporah Kariuki for Radio Citizen
Several RMS journalists also made it to the shortlist. They are:
1.Mohammed Adam - nominated as the cameraperson of the year for the story Portraits of Drought
2. Raquel Muigai - nominated for the stories Meeting Special Needs and Dry Death.
3. Ben Kirui - nominated for the story Healed & Detained
4. Steven Shitera - nominated for the story Kukuza Talanta ya Wanakadanda Wasio and Uwezo La Kusikia
Naiponoi Lepapa was crowned the overall Journalist of the Year award for her investigative story on the surrogacy industry in Kenya, which she did for the Elephant platform.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to broadcast producer and editor Rachael Nakitare.
