ASHEVILLE HIGH 35, NEWTON-CONOVER 21
NEWTON — Reggie Battle rushed for 247 yards and four touchdowns spark Asheville High to the road victory.
The Cougars (2-0) were never overtaken by the Red Devils (1-1) as Battle scored on runs of 1, 10, 25 and 14 yards in consecutive quarters, respectively. He also rushed for a two-point conversion following his final TD to accompany his 31 other attempts.
Asheville High’s other score came on a 53-yard strike from Devon Davidson to Aquila Smith that produced a 21-8 halftime lead.

SHELBY — Darquez Lee passed for 481 yards and five touchdowns to lift Shelby past Reynolds and quarterback Rico Dowdle, who produced 436 yards five TDs.
The Rockets (1-1) had moved ahead, 24-14, midway through the third quarter behind Dowdle (271 yards rushing, 165 passing).
Lee then rallied the Lions (2-0) by hitting three different receivers with consecutive TD passes before Xavier Brooks added a 5-yard run for a 42-24 lead with 8:32 left.
Dowdle reeled off touchdown runs of 50, 4, 57, 11 and 24 yards. He also passed for a two-point conversion.

The Patriots (2-0) built a 21-6 halftime lead on Carney’s 52-yard TD run and a pair of Hartman scoring strikes to Khalil Moore.
Kevin Snyder’s 100-yard kickoff return following Davidson Day’s opening TD in the second period enabled the Greenies (1-1) to avoid the shutout.
Hartman threw for 326 yards, while Carney rushed for 167.

BRYSON CITY – Despite the defensive struggle that saw neither Smoky Mountain (1-1) nor Swain (1-1) score any points in the first half, the Mustangs were able to come away with the victory on the road.
Smoky Mountain put the first points on the board with a 25 yard field goal by Devin Macke with a little over six minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Zack Beck sealed the game with a 5-yard rushing touchdown to start the fourth quarter. Beck finished the game with 49 yards on 13 carries.

BREVARD – Gage Orr ran for three touchdowns and Tanner Green added 173 yards on the ground to power Rosman past its Transylvania County rival.
The Tigers (2-0) led 28-0 at halftime following Orr’s TD runs of 12, 7 and 7 yards and a 62-yard rush by Green.
Green, who added a 15-yard TD run in the final period, needed only 13 carries to compile his total.
The Blue Devils (0-2) scored in the third quarter when Tanner Ellenberger hit Tanner Petit with a 10-yard scoring strike.

Hayesville scored five touchdowns on plays of 35 yards or longer, including second-quarter touchdown passes from Kyle Rhinehardt to Braxton Cox (35 yards) and Brian Smith (91 yards).
Smith also scored on runs of 68 and 59 yards and finished with 129 yards rushing on three carries.

Franklin (1-1) got 144 yards rushing and three scoring runs from Kelton Lowry, while Hunter Gibbs added 143 yards on the ground and scored on a 39-yard sprint.
The Panthers’ defense also reached the end zone on Ethan Volk’s 90-yard touchdown on a fumble return.

HENDERSONVILLE — The Knights scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to win their fifth straight game over two seasons.
Quarterback Trevor Craft scored all three touchdowns for North Henderson (2-0), including a 38-yard run in the final period to tie the score at 14-14.
After the Knights recovered a bobble on a Wolverines’ punt attempt, Craft scored the game winner on a 9-yard run.
Quarterback Jamal Wheeler scored two touchdowns for Polk County (1-1), including a scamper from 55 yards.

ROBBINSVILLE — Warren Holland rushed for three touchdowns as Charlotte Country Day broke Robbinsville’s 17-game winning streak.
The Buccaneers (1-1) built a 21-6 halftime advantage on second-quarter TD runs of 4 and 8 yards by Holland. The visitors then added a decisive 17-0 burst in the third period, including an 11-yard scoring run by Holland.
Lane Millsaps scored on a 7-yard run in the first period for the Black Knights (1-1), who also received a 1-yard TD plunge from Ian Wiggins in the final quarter.
