Budget Handmade Smoke From La Aurora
As cigar prices edge higher and higher, veteran cigarmaker La Aurora thinks it’s time for an inexpensive alternative. This weekend, at the PCA trade show in Las Vegas, the Dominican cigar company will be presenting its expanded Cazadores line, with prices as low as $4.50 per cigar.
Cazadores isn’t new—it was introduced in 2018—and it was originally available in only Connecticut wrapper. Now, it has been expanded with the addition of Nicaraguan and Maduro versions. Named for the Spanish word for “hunters,” Cazadores is made with long filler, rolled by hand and priced for value.
Cazadores Claro, the original line, is made with Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, Indonesian binder and Dominican fillers from the Cibao Valley. La Aurora says it’s mild to medium in strength. Cazadores Maduro has a dark, Indonesian wrapper around an Indonesian binder and Dominican fillers. Cazadores Nicaragua has a Nicaraguan wrapper, an Indonesian binder and Dominican filler. La Aurora describes the blend as spicy.
Each blend comes in three sizes, and prices are identical. The Cazadores Robusto is 5 inches by 50 ring gauge, with a suggested retail price of $4.50 per cigar. Cazadores Toro measures 5 3/4 by 54, selling for $4.75 and the Cazadores Gordo measures 6 by 60 for $6.50. Each cigar is rolled in the Dominican Republic.
Shipments will begin in April.
