L’École de technologie supérieure is a constituent of the Université du Québec network.  Specialized in teaching and applied research in engineering and technology transfer, the school trains engineers and researchers who are recognized for their practical and innovative approach.  Since its beginnings, ÉTS has maintained a unique partnership with the corporate community and industry, including with large corporations and SME.

With its unique mission focusing on applied engineering and its close ties with organizations, ÉTS clearly stands out from other Québec-based universities.  Furthermore, it is the only engineering school in Québec which offers undergraduate engineering programs created specifically for college (CEGEP) graduates of career programs who wish to pursue their studies at the university level.

For ÉTS students, learning is hands-on.  A cooperative teaching formula is in place for undergraduate students (as well as applicable graduate-level programs).  Offering, in turn, courses and paid work placements, this formula is not only one of ÉTS' main features but also one of its strengths.  In addition to their courses, all students who wish to obtain their degree must successfully participate in three work placements totalling at least twelve months in the industry.  In the end, students will have accumulated the equivalent of one year of experience giving them an undeniable edge when entering the work force.

ÉTS welcomes close to 25% of the entire undergraduate student population in engineering in Québec.  This puts the school at the top of those offering this particular undergraduate degree.  In Canada, it is ranked among the five largest engineering schools or faculties.  This is also the case for certificate programs for those seeking a specialization or refresher training.

Considering ÉTS' ability to respond to the needs of organizations, large and small, it is not surprising that the majority of the school's faculty has acquired experience working in industry.  Moreover, thanks to the support of industry and of funding agencies, professors pursue numerous activities within various school groups, chairs and research labs.  Their work directly contributes to scientific progress and development of productivity in Québec and to the province's competitive position and ability to train a highly skilled workforce.  ÉTS' multidisciplinary team is supported by 25 professors (physics, mathematics, languages, communication, etc.) and around 200 lecturers, recognized practitioners in their field.

In addition to its full and part time undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, ÉTS is also recognized for its professional development services.  Over 3000 executives, professionals and technicians from all economic sectors attend intensive professional development seminars in such areas as quality, management, technology and computer sciences.
