CHOCO LOZANO: “I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION COMING TO CÁDIZ”

The Honduran striker gave his thoughts on his time so far at the club to the in-house media team

Honduran striker Antony ‘Choco’ Lozano spoke to the club’s in-house media team to give his thoughts on the season so far, his time at Cádiz, promotion, being picked for the Honduras national team and a number of other topics.

How do you feel?

“I’m happy, happy right now, happy to be here at Cádiz and really enjoying every day.”

Adapting to LaLiga Santander

“I feel I’ve adapted. I think I and the whole team have adapted to the Primera División.”

First half of the season

“It’s been a good first half, I think the overall balance is positive. The team are competing, doing what’s being asked of them and from that point on there are good games and games where things are a bit tougher. The plan is always to fight and try and pick up points.”

Outstanding moments this season

“Unforgettable moments for the whole team, we’ll remember the first half [of the season] for ever. We need to finish off well so that the first half means something.”

Your goal against Real Madrid

“It’s going to be a goal that’s well-remembered. For me it was really special, but the team was so excited to play that match against a massive side like Real Madrid and picking up points is so important.”

Moving to Cádiz

“I think I made the right decision coming to Cádiz. From the start I’ve been grateful to my teammates and the coaching staff for the amazing welcome, and what’s more the fans have been great to me. Overall things are good, because since I arrived things have gone well for me. We’ve had good results, thanks to everyone’s efforts. We were excited about getting promoted, we managed it and now in Primera we’re enjoying ourselves, that’s the way to keep going.”

Promotion

“I was lucky to be there for the promotion. It’s something historic, and even more so at a club like Cádiz. It’s a legendary [club] in Spain and the fans deserved it. They’d been close to promotion for a while and we managed it last year.”

Purchase clause exercised

“I wanted to play and since I moved here I’ve been lucky enough to play. I had the option to stay at the club if we got promoted. We did it, and as I said, they’re going to have to put up with me for three more years [laughs].”

Relationship with Álvaro Cervera

“The gaffer isn’t one to talk much, but my relationship with him is good. He’s got a really clear idea of how to play and we all understand it perfectly. It’s not that hard playing up front for Cádiz, you need to work hard and put in a lot of effort and make sacrifices. The team always end up creating chances and with my characteristics something always turns up.”

Understanding with Negredo

“It’s easy to play with Negredo, he’s a player with a lot of experience who brings so much when he’s out there, just like the rest of my teammates. You need to value the effort everyone makes, so that we’re all fighting hard together.”

Friendship with Fali

“I get on really well with Fali, I’ve known him for a long time. We’re always together, we’re always laughing and that’s good for us and for everyone in our day-to-day routine.”

Honduras national team

“Wearing the Honduras shirt is always a source of pride. Because of Covid I unfortunately couldn’t play the last time I went [on international duty], but it’s always special to get the call from my country, of course.”

Support from Honduras

“The people in Honduras are really into football, they love their football. When they see a fellow countryman in a league like the Spanish league, which they also follow there, they are so proud and happy. I know I’ve got the support of the Honduran fans and I feel it.”

Hopes for the future

“With the national team you always get excited about playing in the World Cup, and I also hope I play for a lot of years in Primera. I want to fight for that dream with Cádiz.”

2021

“We’re looking to stay in Primera and everything after that is a bonus. First of all we need to focus on the points we need to be able to relax and then we can think about everything else.”
