What’s Bruin: UCLA's Lonzo Ball, TJ Leaf and Jordin Canada Named AP All-Americans

Plus, there's basketball recruiting, gymnastics, women's golf, beach volleyball, softball, and baseball news.

What's Bruin this Tuesday? Well, let's catch up with everything going on in UCLA Athletics that doesn't have to with an NCAA Tournament.

UCLA Men's Basketball

Lonzo Ball has been chosen as a first-team AP All-American selection. The other first-team All-America selections were Frank Mason III of Kansas, Josh Hart of Villanova, Caleb Swanigan of Purdue and Justin Jackson of North Carolina. Votes were based on the regular season and conference tournaments. UCLA's TJ Leaf received an honorable mention.

Lonzo Ball was named as a finalist for the 2017 John R. Wooden Award yesterday. Three of the other four finalists were also AP All-American selections. They are Hart, Mason, and Swanigan. Gonzaga's Nigel Williams-Goss is the fifth finalist for the award and he was a second-team AP All-America selection. The John R. Wooden Award is presented to the nation's top college basketball player. The winner of the award will be announced during the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's on ESPN2 on Friday, April 7.

UCLA Women's Basketball

Jordin Canada was named an honorable mention AP All-American.

UCLA Men's Basketball Recruiting

Bruins' signee Jaylen Hands dominated the first day of practice for the McDonald's All-American game, according to Scout.com. Here's video of Hands at practice from Scout:

UCLA Gymnastics

Five Bruins have been earned regular season All-American honors. Madison Kocian was named a first-team all-around All-American and a second-team All-American on the floor exercise. Christine Peng-Peng Lee earned first-team honors on the uneven bars. Hallie Mossett is a second-team All-American on floor exercise. Katelyn Ohasi is a first-team All-American on the balance beam. Kyla Ross was named a first-team All-American on the bars and the beam.

UCLA Women's Golf

Sophomore Lilia Vu shot a 5-under 67 on Monday in the opening round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Kapalua Bay Course in Hawaii. UCLA has a two-shot lead as a team over Colorado and San Jose State.

UCLA Beach Volleyball

The #3 UCLA Beach Volleyball team has an 11-match winning streak going after beating Long Beach State.

UCLA Softball

Paige Halstead had three hits in UCLA's 4-2 win over Dartmouth on Sunday.

UCLA Baseball

Sean Bouchard hit a three-run homer and drove in 5 RBI as UCLA beat UC Berkeley, 20-0 on Sunday. The Bruins missed the extra point.
