Jake Gyllenhaal is buff and toned for his mostly shirtless role in the new fantasy-adventure flick “Price of Persia: The Sands of Time.”

The actor said he went a little overboard at the gym to get ready for the semi-nude scenes.

“I over-prepared myself because I never knew how much they were going to ask me to do, so I just made sure I’d be hopefully able to do anything,” the “Brokeback Mountain” star told Entertainment Tonight.

Gyllenhaal started training months before the film began shooting in the Moroccan dessert and has continued working out on a daily basis to maintain his newly hunky physique.

“I guess I’ve gotten buff,” he said. “There’s a lot of acrobatics in the movie. . . a lot of running up walls and jumping on things. . . so it requires muscularity, but it requires a lot of aerobic ability, too.”

But Jake, who gained five pounds of muscle for the film, said he’ll be relieved when filming is done and he can start pigging out again.

“It’s going to turn into fat and I’m going to be happy,” the “Zodiac” star said.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing “Prince of Persia” to the big screen. The flick, which is based on the popular video game, follows the life of a young noble (played by Gyllenhaal) who must join forces with a pricess (played by “Quantum of Solace” star Gemma Arterton) to prevent a nobleman (Ben Kingsley) from possessing a gift from the gods that can allow its owner to rule the world. The film is scheduled to open in theaters in May 2010.
