Eagles waived/injured Emmanuel Acho, per report

Bummer.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles waived/injured inside linebacker Emmanuel Acho, according to multiple reports. Acho recently had surgery on his thumb. Prior to the report of his release, several Philadelphia reporters noticed Acho's locker was cleaned out.

This is obviously disappointing news for the 24-year-old Acho. He was fighting an up-hill battle to make the team at inside linebacker, but he was having a good summer prior to getting hurt. Acho was a fun personality. Earlier this offseason he made a high school girl's dream come true by being her prom date.

The Eagles originally acquired Acho during the 2013 offseason when Philadelphia traded Dion Lewis to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for him. Acho spent some time on the Eagles' practice squad in 2013 and early in 2014 before being called up to the main roster for most of last season. Acho made 20 career appearances with Philadelphia and logged two starts.

The Eagles still have a lot of depth at inside linebacker despite losing Acho. Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks, and DeMeco Ryans are all expected to be significant contributors. Third round pick Jordan Hicks is a lock to make the roster. Veteran Brad Jones has shined in the preseason, can contribute on special teams, and has the versatility to also play at outside linebacker.

With Acho gone, the Eagles have an open spot on their roster. To be determined how they decide to fill it.
