Chicago-based Somos Hospitality, which currently operates the Tzuco Mexican restaurant in the River North neighborhood, said Ummo will open in July.

A new contemporary Italian restaurant called Ummo is planned to open this summer in Chicago's River North neighborhood.

Chicago-based Somos Hospitality, which currently operates the Tzuco Mexican restaurant in River North at 720 N. State St., said Ummo will open at 22 W. Hubbard St. in July.

Running the restaurant will be Germán González, principal and co-founder, and Carlos Gaytán, chef and partner, with food by José Sosa, chef and partner, and design by Karen Herold of Studio K Creative.

“This is an exciting time to expand our presence in Chicago. The downtown Chicago community has been so good to us, and we see a distinct growth opportunity for Hubbard Street," González said in a statement.

The restaurant will include a dining room that seats 100 and a bar that seats 12. There will also be an upstairs lounge with a private dining room.

Ummo is the most recent addition to the River North dining scene.

Sushi | Bar, which currently operates in Austin, Texas, and Miami, has its third U.S. location at 405 N. Wabash Ave. The 375-square-foot location specializes in omakase-style dining.

And Bodega Taqueria y Tequila, a Miami-based taco restaurant and lounge with five South Florida locations, said it signed a 10-year lease for its second Chicago location that's expected to open in River North at the end of summer 2023 at 407 N. Clark St.
