Product Description

Amazon.com
Xbox 360 sets a new pace for digital entertainment. More than just a cutting-edge game system, Xbox 360 also integrates high-definition video, DVD movie playback, digital music, photos, and online connectivity into one sleek, small tower. In anticipation of this year's largest blockbuster game launch, we are happy to present the Xbox 360™ Halo® 3 Special Edition Console. The console features an exclusive "Spartan green and gold" finish and comes bundled with a matching Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, 20GB Hard Drive, Headset, Play & Charge Kit, and exclusive Halo 3 Gamer Pics and Theme (available via Xbox LIVE® download).

About the Xbox 360 Hardware

Xbox 360, shown with wireless controller, is a sleek, customizable gaming and entertainment system.

Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.

The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage, users can choose between the detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive, or a separately sold 64MB flash Memory Unit. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.

Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has announced plans for a upcoming video-conferencing camera that will work with the system.

Xbox 360 can manage your games, your online friends, and your personal digital library.

About Xbox 360 Games and Media
All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library.

About Xbox Live
A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital goodies for your games. The subscription service Xbox Live Gold adds to that online competition, game stats, and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards.

What's Included in the Game System

  • Xbox 360 console
  • 20GB detachable hard drive
  • Wireless controller
  • Xbox Live headset
  • High-definition AV cable
  • Ethernet cable
  • Detachable faceplate
  • Xbox Live Silver membership
  • HDMI connection

I consider myself an unbiased gamer and have played many different consoles and brands over the years. My reason for buying the 360 was for the game library, including the obvious Halo 3 among several others. Thus I can honestly say that, from the moment I bought this console I have experienced no freezes or hardware failures of any kind. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky few, but my 360 has been working flawlessly for about 6 months now. If you manage to lay hands on a console that works as well as mine, you can't go wrong with the 360. I love the design, the menu layout, the controller, and the library.

As far as it having the Falcon chipset, I don't know. There are numerous sites on the web offering various methods of determining if you've gotten one of the vaunted Falcons, but I have no idea who is right or wrong.

My console has had a Nyko Intercooler EX on it since the second week i've owned it. This may or may not have contributed to my lack of problems, but I do recommend this accessory since it is only $20 and the additional ventilation can only help your console.

My final word: If you are unwilling to take the chance of having to deal with a defective console, and there are no 360 games that you MUST play, then spend your gaming dollars elsewhere.

On the other hand, if you're like me and are willing to take the risk in order to play Halo 3, Gears of War, and all the other 360 games, take the plunge.

Just do your research and make sure that the console you're looking at has the game library and features that you're looking for before you slap your money on the table.

Update 2/21/10

Well, I couldn't escape the inevitable. Even the mighty Halo 3 edtition xbox 360 could not escape Microsoft's problems with their latest console. I was about to plug in Bayonetta, having played it only hours before, when my console gave me the great "E74" error. I just mailed the console out last Saturday and am now waiting for it's return and the price tag for the repair. The more I think about it the more I wonder if part of the problem with the 360 is the amount it gets played. I played the crap out of this console for 2 and a half years, a better run than most. The sad part is that if my console ever does completely brick, I will probably buy a new one. Good luck to all of you who roll the dice on the 360!!!

A few weeks ago I received my Halo 3 Edition Xbox 360, and it shipped fast and was great. The HDMI option included in this version made games look crystal clear and very sharp. The colors of this special edition Xbox looked awesome and were nice to show off to your friends, and the included Halo controller and headset completed the look. I bought this product along with an Xbox Live Gold Membership, and I immediately began downloading maps, themes, and game demos from the very handy Xbox Live Marketplace, as well as enjoying top-of-the-line online gaming.

After a week or two of flawless gaming on my new Xbox, however, I suddenly received an "internal system failure" message and was forced to send my precious new Xbox back for repair. I do not understand why after years of updating the Xbox 360 so many times that the console's designers cannot fix simple problems like this. I expect my Xbox to be back in 2-3 weeks, and I can only pray to God that this time it will last for a while. If I have to send in my Xbox for repair AGAIN after I get it back, I'm saving my money for a PS3. End of story.

All in all, I found the Halo 3 Edition Xbox 360 to be thriving with great features and impressive online play, but I am very disappointed in the product's failure after very mild use.

I am sure it probably works great, don't know. I bought it for my son but didn't realize it didn't come with ANY cords and they seem to be hard to find. Not the happiest and neither is my son who got an expensive decoration instead of a game console. Just an update, went through two cords and IT DOES NOT WORK. I contacted the seller and they are leading me on a fun little game. Will not buy from this seller again.

I ordered a xbox 360 Halo 3 edition and the claims that were made included everything original to the box. It was however extremely deficient of the accessories. As advertized, it should have included the Halo 3 Special Ed. Headset, the play and charge kit, the Halo 3 Special ed. Gamer Pics and Theme, the HD AV cable and the LIVE Silver Membership. The game was sold seperately, however how does someone live with themselves after ripping someone off so badly? Have fun person because you now have transferred some major bad karma onto yourself.
