Time Reavers: A Young Adult Superhero Urban Fantasy Thriller Kindle Edition
The universe is a hamburger.
That’s what sixteen-year-old Nicole Taylor learns when a mysterious time-bending stranger saves her from a rampaging cyborg centipede.
See, the top bun? That’s our dimension. The bottom bun? That’s the monster’s dimension. And the patty? That’s a dimension where the two worlds meet – and the Reavers can attack.
The Reavers are horrific cybernetic killing machines, and their plans for the top bun? Well, they’re as terrifying as you’d expect.
But Nicole isn’t helpless. She has a rare gift. She can bend time around her and even stop it completely.
Plagued with nightmares and ambushed by monsters at every turn, Nicole has one chance to stop the Reavers’ genocidal invasion. With help from a chain-smoking pyromaniac, a neurotic sword-wielding assassin, and an icy goth chick with a crossbow, she’ll make a stand against the evil bugs.
Because if the universe is a hamburger, the Reavers want a bite.
From national bestselling author Jacob Holo comes a world of super powered teens, time manipulating cyborgs, and nonstop high-stakes action for fans of Renegades (Marissa Meyer), Steelheart (Brandon Sanderson), and Zeroes (Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, Deborah Biancotti).

About the author
Jacob Holo has been a recreational geek since childhood, when he discovered Star Wars and Star Trek, and a professional geek since college, when he graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Electrical and Controls Engineering. He started writing when his parents bought that “new” IBM 286 desktop, and over the years, those powers combined to push him to the next level of nerddom: a sci-fi author who designs intricate worlds and tech systems...and promptly blows them up in a string of nonstop action.
He is the author of nine books, including national bestsellers The Gordian Protocol and The Valkyrie Protocol (with David Weber), military sci-fi novel The Dragons of Jupiter, YA urban fantasy Time Reavers (a Kirkus Reviews Best Indie Book of 2014), and the mecha space opera trilogy Seraphim Revival (Bane of the Dead, Throne of the Dead, Disciple of the Dead); YA steampunk fantasy The Wizard’s Way (with H.P. Holo), and GameLit fantasy Monster Punk Horizon: Excess (with H.P. Holo).
Between novels, Jacob enjoys gaming of all sorts, whether video gaming, card gaming, miniature wargaming, or watching speed runs on YouTube. He is a former-Ohioan, former-Michigander who now lives in South Carolina with his wife/boss H.P. and his cat/boss Nova.

How is this an indie book?! It's been so long since I've read something that made me feel like my head was going to explode from shear amazing bookness(Yes, I know it's not a word, but this is the only way I can express how I'm feeling).
So, in no real order, this is what I loved:
1. I'm amazed by how well this male author handles a female protagonist, and a teen female protagonist at that. Nicole is genuine in her motives and thoughts. She is a very likable character without being perfect, she is wonderfully realistic. Even though her abilities are supposed to be unique/special she never gets arrogant about it.
2. The fight scenes were executed well and very detailed. You have been warned, very few gory details have been held back. There's nothing wrong with this, but I know for some this isn't really their cup of tea.
3. The details are nice. There are some amazing uses of imagery such as "it's body flowed like a river of metal plates". All the creatures are unique and well described. Sound also plays a big role and is described very well.
4. Minor characters are developed well. I pretty much fell in love with Daniel. He's got this witty "Doctor Who" with a dark twist way of talking and handling things, or at least that's how I see it in my mind. He's awesome, but flawed, and he's the male love interest without being so gorgeous and HAWT he takes up half the book with his prettiness. Or maybe he is gorgeous... my point is, the romance doesn't eat the story like in so many YA books. Originality for the win!
5. The universe is a hamburger, by the way.
A good review has to point out bad aspects... right? Give me a minute...
1. Some minor grammar errors and awkward phrasing that an editor could clear up.
2. A few passages seem oddly paced.
3. I'm scared there won't be a sequel.... there will be a sequel, right? Please?
So, boys and girls, this book is (currently) only $.99 on the Amazon kindle store so at least give this a try, I think it's great, maybe you will too.
Also, a note: This is a completely independent author and he seems to work very hard on writing his books and promoting them. I find that admirable, and maybe you could see that as a reason to try this book or his other work "The Dragons of Jupiter" which I intend to read soon, even though it's out of my normal zone (non-ya).
One thing that I want to stress is that, even those I enjoyed both books and they are both written by the same author, the two books are drastically different. Where Dragons of Jupiter was a futuristic, sci-fi epic, with large scale battles, and complex politics. Time Reavers is more of a modern day fantasy novel with a much more young adult tone and feel to it. The author does an excellent job of building the world and the characters that inhabit it. Without spoiling too much I will say that the novel takes the reader into two different “worlds” each with their own set of rules and characteristics. The interplay between the two creates some very interesting scenes. The characters are also very well done. They are most definitely a motley crew, but they become very endearing to the reader very quickly.
Overall, I am happy to say that this new author’s sophomore effort is definitely a great novel. I look forward to reading what he comes up with next.
