Editorial Reviews

Carreras Domingo Pavarotti in Concert (re-released as The Three Tenors in Concert) is a live album by José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti with conductor Zubin Mehta. The album was recorded on July 7, 1990 in Rome as the first Three Tenors concert with the orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the orchestra of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma on the evening before the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final. The recording, released on the Decca Classics label, won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Performance in 1991 at the 33rd Grammy Awards.[1] It is the best-selling classical album of all time[2] and led to a shift in the way the music industry marketed classical recordings

What’s not to love? It’s a classic album replacing a 30 year old scratched version. Thank you.

Like most of the previous reviewers, I grew up listening to opera and Italian music, but never appreciated it. After all, Led Zeppelin, Clapton, and the Eagles were more of my generation. However, when I heard this CD 16 years ago, I never stopped listening. I'm on my 4th copy and give it as a gift all the time. Pavarotti needs no description - truly a voice from the universe. Domingo is strong & secure in his voice. Carreras was very ill during this concert and I noticed some reviewers said his voice wasn't as exceptional as the other 2. It was, given his health at the time. And the orchestra - omg, the orchestra!!! I've listened to this so long, I can tune out the voices and listen to the orchestra on its own - magnificent!!!! This CD will awaken you to the beauty of music and voice. The song selection is comfortable for experienced opera listeners, and non-experienced as well. Try it. If you don't like it, pass it forward. The receiver may just love it for you.

If you never lived or were lucky enough to see the actual performance of this on PBS or whatever it was, you can still hear the beauty of these three tenors. Caruso died not long after of throat cancer (what a horror of irony that is), and Pavarotti died a few years ago (that is cataclysmic and shouldn't have been allowed). They talk about Disney having preserved himself cryogenically...no no this is the thing that should have been done with Pavarotti. Like burning the finest Steinway or Strad.

Anyway, there is a 2nd performance of Nessun Dorma, done as a trio, which is funny and beautiful. Though Caruso didn't seem to blend as well as Pavarotti and Domingo, it's more of a taking turns bit. Incredible strength, musicianship, grace, and camaraderie.

Cherish cherish cherish this while it's still available...and cherish Domingo as well while he's still around. It may be the end of a great age of opera....hope not.

The music on the CD is amazing but the last 2 tracks sound like peoples voices in a recording studio and they are trying to record the music and are flipping through a playlist... so sad because it ruins the CD

If you have never been exposed to Opera, you will want to start with The Three Tenors! This concert is possibly the best, of the series of concerts they have done! The Tenors are warm, and accesible, they please and charm the average ear, and end up proving that Opera is for everyone! One would have to be dead to not fall in love with Opera through this endeavor! Some may discrimiate against the popular songs included, but they are to be enjoyed in the spirit of fun and passion they are presented in! The competitive spirit of the Tenors is something to relish in!
Who cares if the English is mis-pronounced? If anything, it adds to the charm! Don't be the only one to not see, and hear this event of a lifetime! I give this cd(or dvd) as a gift, as often as I can!

Totally love, love, love this CD as do millions of others - I saw the Pavarotti bio (Ron Howard) and it re-inspired me
to listen to Pavarotti and the 3 Tenors - nothing like these voices..truly gifted and what a bonus for the cultural
world of opera.

New in mint condition - w/insert. Highly recommend.

The music on this CD is absolutely incredible, it does help when you have Carreras, Pavarotti and Domingo on vocals. I would recommend this to anyone, even non opera people.

I would have sold my friends kids into slavery to attend this concert. The CD and my blow your mind car stereo was the next best thing.
