Smaller and lighter than the original.
Analog triggers feel really good
D-pad is great for fighting games.
Digital L R buttons for Z & C
Turbo fire for the main 4 buttons
Dislikes:
Very tight upper VMU slot
Analog stick could've been a bit bigger
Turbo button is too close to the analog stick
Turbo does not work for L & R (L trigger & R trigger)
Conclusion:
This is a way better pad than the offical SEGA Dreamcast pad. My only complaints are the analog stick is a bit tinny for my fat thumb, and I keep hitting the analog stick when I press the turbo button.
Other than that, this is a great alternative. If you have a Dreamcast, or playing on an emulator, I highly recommend this game pad.

The only thing that would make this better is if it was available in the wireless standard set by DreamConn+ but nothing is perfect.
The slots for the VMU and rumble pack, and the protruding bit of plastic for the wire, do add enough plastic to the back that it blocks my fingers from resting naturally. This isn’t the biggest deal, and there’s really probably only so much you can do with a fully functional Dreamcast controller, but it’s worth mentioning.
The joystick is a bit loose for my taste. It’s noticeably looser than the original controller, that said it’s still an upgrade. I find my thumb more easily slips off the official controller’s convex shape, while this offers a more modern concave design with a rubberized cap.
My biggest issue is the triggers. They feel light and shallow, and cheap especially compared to the official controller. I think if there is a point where this controller breaks down, it’ll definitely be in the triggers. I guess at least it has the alternate shoulder buttons to rely on.
It’s unfortunate that there are trade offs, but I think I do prefer this to the official controller. You have to take a loose stick and weak triggers, but you get things like a better, more comfortable grip, and a (longer!) wire the comes from the top of the controller. At the end of the day it's about feel, and this feels better in my hands than the official controller. I think there is room for improvement, but it's a step in the right direction.
It sees my VMU and regular mem cards perfectly (haven't tried a tremor pak yet)
I haven't used the turbo function, yet either but this controller rocks and should have been the original design.
Comes in a few different colors, but the black is slick.
First off the controller looks good, and functions fine. I just wish for the price it was a little better. Also don't think this review aimed at Retrofighters as some personal attack, because I bought the brawler64 and it's actually my favorite n64 controller now.
Biggest Gripe:
The triggers are awful. One of the better things about the original controller were the triggers, I thought (and I've owned a Dreamcast since they came out). They added shoulder/bumpers in addition to the normal triggers. This is cool for games that you would rather press a button instead of pulling a trigger. However how it's implemented is pretty bad. The triggers are small and they've even made them extend past the actual base of the trigger to give you more room. The bottom of this lip is very sharp and not attractive looking at all (I'll attach a picture). They also don't feel that great either, the originals feel way smoother and less wobbly.
2nd Gripe:
The thumbstick has a nice rubber feel (also smaller) unlike the plastic original. However it also has a bad deadzone, and I mean physical deadzone in the stick. Some newer controllers have deadzone in games, but this stick literally has to be moved a decent bit before it actually has tension and registers. It's not too bad in games, but again for the price tag, I feel it should be a little better.
3rd Gripe/aesthetics
The VMU sticks out really far past the end of the controller. It doesn't effect anything but it looks pretty bad IMO (Pic included).
Buttons:
Everything else (D-Pad, Start, Turbo, Clear, A, X, B, Y), feel fine, nice and clicky but not over the top either.
Overall I'm sure this controller was an investment to make considering the rarity of parts (VMU slots, connectors) that are produced for these things. I get why it's priced at $50 but I'm just not sure the quality is there for the price. I would assume Retrobit's offering would be at a good price and nice quality. Their Tribute64 is almost as good as the Brawler64 but it's also $10 cheaper.
Overall, If you really want to try this and aren't concerned about the issues I talked about earlier, then I would pick this up. Otherwise I would wait for the Retrobit, if it was my decision to do over again.
