The third game in the God of War franchise, God of War: Chains of Olympus for PlayStation Portable is a prequel to the first two games in the series published for PlayStation 2, and true the high standards of God of War and God of War II, not only does it equal the efforts of its predecessors, in some ways it may even surpass them.

Kratos Story
The God of War franchise tells the tragic and violent story of the warrior Kratos and his dealings with the gods. The ancient world would eventually both praise and damn the infamous Ghost of Sparta as the mortal who slayed a god, but long before his battle with Ares, Kratos sought absolution from his past sins by pledging himself as a champion to the gods. These brutal crusades in the name of Olympus became legendary, but would have far-reaching consequences. In Chains of Olympus Kratos is pushed to the edge as he is ordered by the gods to journey to the very depths of the underworld after the world plunges into darkness. There he must face the most feared creatures of Greek mythology and is forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction. It is a choice that will shake the immortals from their perches on Mt. Olympus.

God of War's Epic Gameplay Comes to the PSP
PlayStation Portable has always been head and shoulders above its competitors in the handheld market when it comes to processing power, and in God of War: Chains of Olympus the PSP platform may just have reached its highest level to date. Packed with features like dramatic camera angles, epic set pieces, cinematic cut scenes, stirring audio and seamless fast action gameplay, formerly only available on console platforms Chains of Olympus binds players to the games epic adventure, regardless where they are when they join in the action.

Combat Moves, Both Old and New
Nearly as defining as the name of Kratos itself, the trademark sweeping attack moves of the Ghost of Sparta using his weapon of choice the Blades of Chaos, epitomizes all God of War games and Chains of Olympus is no exception.

Although overall the PSP has fewer buttons than the PlayStation 2 controller, developer Ready at Dawn Studios has managed to incorporate nearly all of the attack moves and combination moves from previous games in the series into this new project. This continuity in gameplay not only provides a seamless intro into the game for veteran players, but a gentle learning curve for players new to the series. Add to this new brutal combat moves and an additional upgradable weapon and you have a combat system that will engage players at all levels.

Exploration and Puzzle Solving
From the bright gates of Attica to the darkest dungeons of Tartarus, Kratos journey and your own will take you through the dark and brutal world of Greek mythology. Here not only will your skill with the Blades of Chaos be tested, but your wits as well.

As you explore the dangers of the ancient world, players must be prepared to use their navigational skills as they press on through labyrinths of challenging puzzles. Some may be simple tests at manipulating the games environment to your advantage, while others much more difficult also requiring precision timing of moves, but each will be different and test you in new ways.

An Evolution in Franchise History
More than just a missing piece in the history of the God of War franchise, Chains of Olympus also serves as an evolutionary link between the origins of the God of War franchise and its future. Originally developed for PlayStation 2, the future of the franchise is slated to make its arrival on PlayStation 3 in the form of the highly anticipated God of War III in the not too distant future. Not only is PlayStation Portable designed to work in unison with PlayStation 3 in many ways, but both long-time fans and newcomers to the series who choose to watch and play Chains of Olympus carefully may very well pick up clues as to the direction the franchise will be heading in with God of War III.

I'm sure most gamers have added this as their second or third PSP, but for me it's my first. I thought I'd make some suggestions for new users.

1. Before you do anything else, buy a memory stick, a Pro Duo. You can't do anything useful without it.

2. Buy a USB cable (5 pin mini). It doesn't come with one, and you'll need it to download stuff from your PC to the PSP.

3. Buy a protective case and screen protector. I bought a Joytron case and InvisibleShield. The Joytron fits perfectly on the slim.

4. Be careful when connecting the PSP to older computers. It's very powerful, and I overloaded the USB port on my older work computer when I tried to connect it.

5. When transferring music or video to the PSP, here's how you do it:
a. Plug in the PSP, and go to "USB Connection" in the menu
b. Wait for your computer to recognize it
c. Go into My Computer and look for the drive where the PSP is
d. Open the PSP
e. Look for the Music folder (or Video)
f. When moving music over, first create a folder with the album title on it in the Music folder on the PSP, *then* copy over the music into the folder. For example, I created a "Battlestar Galactica Season 1" folder inside the Music folder on the PSP. Then I copied over the MP3s. Copying whole folders gives you an error.

6. Sign up for the Playstation Store. You can download free demos of many popular games (like Patapon), along with themes and wallpapers for the PSP. I like this method of free demos, because I can have multiple demos on my PSP and only carry two UMDs with me and never get bored.

I bought the psp slim thinking that it was the upgrade to my previous psp. DON"T BUY IT, the slim is not smaller than the original. It's a cheap version of it. Like in the days of the walkman- you had the $150 and up walkmen and the $10 sanyo's, the old one is the $150 walkman in the sense that it gives you quality parts(a mechanized door with eject switch for the umd, high quality impact plastic case, a larger battery capacity...) the slim has a cheap $10 stlye manual opening door, cheap shiney plastic, a lower capacity battery, and in comparing the speeds of loading games- the two are the same. Don't believe sony's claims.
I'm very disappointed with Sony and their latest acts of capitalism. They should be ashamed for selling such low quality products at high prices, since their name was once synonymous with quality. It's like sony got taken over by taiwan, there is no japanese (superior) quality technology, just price gouging, banking on what the name of the company and what it once stood for. They even cheapen the ps3- they took out the modules that run ps1 and ps2. That's why ps2 sales are still higher than ps3 sales not b/c of the price, there's no quality behind the name Sony anymore. I don't think that I would buy another sony product in this lifetime nor do I recommend it.
Bottom line- if you have to buy a psp, don't buy psp 2000. Try to get your hands on the older version even if it is refurbished. There's a later version coming out this month but I doubt it would be any better "downhill" the way their products are rolling.

Altogether I'm glad I got it(when I was about 15 I had to sell the one I had outside of my house to buy groceries for my family) , I just wish it was in a little better condition. The back is scratch and the screen is a little dull. I shouldn't expect to much from such an old console. The charger is after market and the memory is only 1GB. For the price I feel like it should with at least one god of war game. All in all I'm glad to have gotta a piece of my childhood back.

I am so glad that I got this great system. I like that this comes with one of the leading games for sony and movie that is just over the top funny.

Plus and minuses of the system.

+Small light weight unit and nice size screen.
+Has more selection of adult games. Compared to other handhelds.
+Plays movies, music, pictures and videos.

-Hard to hold for someone with big hands. (Tendinitis hurts!)
-Screen gets dirty quick. (Suggests getting screen protection.)
-No memory card. (Suggests getting a sanDisk.) cheaper then other brands.
-Price to much.

If you are like me and need a little gaming on the move with more games for 18+ gamer (with deep pockets) then this is for you.

**Remember that a memory card is not included with this combo and so when purchasing this unit look for a memory card as well.
