    I mostly listen to audio books on this boombox. It gives good sound. It’s easy to move from room to room. The only thing is the controls for pause and restart etc are wrong.

    I read so many reviews and browsed multiple big brand name websites for a portable CD/FM Radio player. Prices ranged from cheap to overly expensive. The common thread of complaints with the majority, centered on mediocre sound quality and skipping with the CD function. It was frustrating to see these two concerns in some of the pricey popular brand names. Another sticking point was size or features for aesthetics that did nothing to enhance the actual operation of the player. As luck would have it, I found this nifty Philips model. It is lightweight even with batteries. You can play CDs or the FM radio with plenty of volume. The bass boost button adds a rich dimension, too. This thing fits neatly on an area the size of a salad plate! The price made sense when I read the website details. It was not cheap nor too expensive considering. I am glad I ordered this Philips brand and enjoy toting it anywhere. The electric cord is generous in length. The 6 C batteries are an I mprovement over 6 to 8 D size too many players required. My order arrived early and was packed in the manufacture box nestled inside an additional Amazon box.
    Interestingly, I was the first to purchase this model. It had just landed on the Amazon website as a new offering! There were no reviews as yet. I wanted to use it awhile before offering my opinion. Taking a chance is now reason for the happy dance.

    The first one we ordered we had to return. The Cd quality was good but the tape playback was awful. Unlistenable. Radio was ok. We got a replacement. It looked better. Newer. Maybe our first one had been a return from another customer? We’ve kept the replacement, as the tape playback, although not as good as Cd is at least decent and good enough. Cd playback is very nice and radio works fine. Hard to find such multi-function players these days for a good price. This is good once you get a workable one. Amazon is great re: returns and replacements, so it wasn’t that bad to have to try two before we were satisfied.

    We got the Philips boom box in August and in December it failed to produce sound in all functions by early December. I first tried new batteries and plugging it into another electrical outlet. I then watched the Philips video available through Amazon, but that did not fix it. I then called the Philips assistance line, explaining the problem and what I had done. The first person then provided me the phone number of a second person, to whom I repeated all that I had to the first. The second person then provided me the phone number of a third person, to whom I repeated all that I had to the first and second. She asked me for my contact info and an email address. She said to expect an email shortly. By the next day, still no response.

    This is for the cassette version. Phillips used to make excellent boomboxes in the 90s with little buttons like bass boost. This one is cheap-ish and the sound quality is also cheap sounding. I'm just trying to play cassette tapes and they just don't sound good coming from this particular model. I returned it. It works fine and will be totally fine for people who are unfussy about how things sound. It just doesn't sound as full and rich as older model Phillips cassette players I find in thrift stores.

    I'm sorry to say it did not meet our expectations. It sound tinny and it would not play some of our CDs.
    I did not recommend it to family members. We purchased it because of the brand name we were familiar with. And spent a lot of money. Certainly not worth the money!!

    I had read reviews that mentioned the not so good sound quality of this Phillips Portable CD player. That has not been my experience. For a small unit, the sound is crisp with adequate range and the volume can get pretty loud if that’s what you want. Keep in mind that this is a pretty basic model. So there is no equalizer, “bass booster”, lighted dial or some of the other bells and whistles on more expensive sets. But I was looking for an inexpensive but decent portable to play my Christmas CDs while I am working at my desk. So it does the job. Looks great too. Gotta go. Time to change cds.

    Overall a great experience. Sound quality is great for both CD and Cassette. Since it's a good quality it also plays some audio cassettes that had issues playing in my walkman, so am happy to have this player.
    Please note to use a step down transformer of 220/240V to 120V(you can definitely get it on amazon, I had got one earlier from Amazon 12 years ago and it is still good). There was a delay in delivery by the seller but they called me and provided excellent updates on when I will receive it since it is imported from US, it takes time, but patience pays. Overall I am happy with the purchase, again do use a step down transformer for this player, it's a good one!
