One of the main reasons I bought a Saturn was for this game, and its awesome library of shmups, 2d fighters, and platformers. This is a must own game, and one if not the most sought after on Saturn (PD Saga that is). Are you missing out if you buy the import and can't read Japanese? Maybe a little. Does it ruin the game? No, especially if the story isn't your #1 priority. It's still very playable and no way would I spend over 20 times more for the US version for a few conveniences (my MINT 100% complete copy of Azel was ~$32). Besides, if you get stuck there are translation guides to help.
Amazing game. Pretty easy to play even in Japanese. Most stats/icons are in english. Only language barrier is with NPC's and following story. There are good guides online though to help you progress and keep you up with whats going on within the story. It's worth owning a Saturn just for this game alone. One of the most unique, majestic , and mystical RPG experiences. I miss what SEGA used to be.
A must have for any Saturn owners or RPG enthusiasts. If you're using a 4 in 1 Action Replay cart to play as an import, don't forget to look up the correct code to enter so you can play it. While it is in Japanese, it's still easy to figure out if you have played it before. Also, the save files are universal, so my Saga saves worked just fine.
