If you are considering buying this game, consider no longer...buy it. Exile is definitely one of my favorite computer games; the graphics are beautiful, the music is excellent, the acting is exceptional. While it retains the linking books, creative ages and puzzles that define Myst, it has a different personality and, in my opinion, is superior to its oldest predecessor. It has overall excellent replay value, so rest assured you can play it over and over and still have fun.There are five ages in Exile, not counting Atrus's home; J'nanin, Amateria, Edanna, Voltaic and Narayan. J'nanin is the hub age of this game, with a total of four linking books placed in giant "tusks." Puzzles must be solved before you have access to the books.Amateria is my favorite age and bears a remarkable resemblance to Giant's Causeway in Ireland. It is a peaceful and relaxing age, with great background music and glowing crystals.Edanna is the least conventional of all the ages. It is a towering tree-like thing, the interior of which is full of plants.Voltaic is an age of red rock and metal. Not surprisingly, there is also lava.Narayan is the smallest age, and also my least favorite, which you cannot access until you have completed all the other ages.Exile is a must-have for any Myst fan and a great game for anyone.

After trying for several days to get the game to run on windows 10, I finally got it to work. First, download the official patch from ubisoft (english v1.22). Then, install the game onto your computer (full install). Remove the disk. Next, disable your virus protection and install the patch. The patch replaces the m3.exe file, so your virus protection will keep blocking the attempted install of the patch. Now, run in compatibility mode. It works! I am running the CD edition (four disks).

Quite disappointed. Excited to give it to our daughter for Christmas, purchased a new copy 4 cd box. I thought I saw in reviews or somewhere in information available that the game operated on Windows 7. May have just wanted it too badly. After trying and trying, we found it did not install on Windows 7 and/or 10. Also could not install the DirectX 8 from the CD on either Windows platform. Lesson learned to explore a little further when looking for an old game. Maybe a downloadable copy will be available in the future, as we did enjoy playing Myst so many years ago and would love to be able to play Myst III.

Just as fun as myst and riven.I had a feeling it would be.If at first you dont know whats happening just stick with it,it will be worth it.The reason i say that is when i bought the first myst i didnt realize what kind of game it was.Although after i started playing it(it took a while)i was in awe.It is by far the best"kind"of game out there.I like all games,always have but in my opinion pc puzzles games are the best.I guess its because im from a different generation(old guy).

Haven't spent much time with this but it looks very similar to the style of the original. I'm running it under WIn 7 64 bit. In case anyone else has problems trying this here are the instructions that I followed to get it running:

1. Open the Start menu, search for or type “Command", right-click the Command Prompt shortcut ("Invite de Commandes" in French) , and select Run as Administrator.
2. Make sure the Command Prompt shows C:\Windows\system32>. If not, repeat step 1 as Administrator.
3. Type: sc config secdrv start= demand.

Resolution is a bit low by today's standards - still trying to figure out how to run it in a smaller sized window - currently it is full screen at 640x480.

Wish they would re-release them in a Windows 10 format with higher resolution graphics.

This program in PC version is designed for Windows 95, 98 or ME only. However it does run on my Win-7 32-bit system. To install, turn off autorun for the CD. Go to the CD's directory, and right-click on setup.exe. Select "troubleshoot compatibility." Then select "troubleshoot program." On the next screen select "The program worked in earlier versions...." On the next screen highlight "Windows 98/ME" and click Next. On the next screen select "start the program," which will happen when you click Next again. The install program will run. Then the Compatibility Troubleshooter will ask if the program installed correctly. Click on YES.

Now go to the disk directory you selected for the new game, such as "c:\program files\myst3." Click on the "bin" directory. Right click on the M3.exe file, and repeat the steps above for program compatibility.

Done. Good to go. Click on the Myst III icon on your desktop. On my system sound and graphics worked fine.

I doubt it will successfully run on a Win-7-64 bit system, as Myst3 is a 16-bit program.

I had only been playing the game for a few minutes when I got dizzy and had to stand over the toilet until the feeling of nausea left and I stopped feeling like I was going to blow my lunch out of this world. I played Myst and I thought it was really good. I tryed to play Riven but I coudn't get it to start, so i skipped ahead to Myst Exile. The way your cursor moves in the game sort of gives you the illusion that the screen is concave and the way you move about made me get motion sickness and i am fine on roller coasters. Though my stomach couldn't take it i will admit that the graphics are pretty good and plot line made sense and the concept of going to the other worlds is pretty cool. If you think you can stand it then i would recomend it.
