Review

Focus on Family Radio Theatre's production of the tale of four London children who step through their wardrobe into enchanted Narnia includes a full orchestral score, compelling sound design, and a script that remains true to the classic C.S. Lewis book. Older children will better appreciate the British flavor and slower pacing of the story, while adults will find the introduction by Lewis' stepson interesting. A 1999 Parents' Choice Gold Award Winner. (Parents' Choice®) -- From Parents' Choice®

From AudioFile

This production of C.S. Lewis's classic is top-notch from start to finish. Listeners will be absorbed from the story's introduction to its triumphant end. Excellent interplay between dialogue and narration brings Lewis's story to life, and well-selected sound effects add depth: You can feel Narnia unfurl around you with the sounds of creaking doors, crackling fires, and sleigh bells. Most astonishing of all is the ability of the four children acting the main parts. Individually their voices are engaging and precise; together they work seamlessly to produce real dialogues with perfect timing and fully realized characters. A word of warning: This production is so strong that the witch is frightening and Aslan's sacrifice truly chilling. Parents should listen to help their children through the scary parts; they too will be richly rewarded by this classic tale. While well-read books on tape can be excellent, there is no replacement for multiple actors/voices. We love to use these for drives with the kids. Great for the imagination.

This is an incredible recording of the The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! We listened to it on one long leg of a road trip. It's not just read like typical audio books but it's performed! Loved it!!!

I love this BBC version of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." The story is a classic, and this script is very true to the book.
The production is very well done, like most of the BBC's audio theatre. The voice actors do a great job, and actual children play the four kids. The various accents of the British Isles are on display, which adds a realistic touch. Music and sound effects are well used to evoke mood and excitement. Imagination is one of the main benefits of radio theater, and the BBC knows how to do it right. The White Witch is terrible. Aslan is good, but not safe.
I think that they have produced, or are currently producing, the entire series as audio dramas. I will definitely be looking into the others.

Took long day trip with 9 year old granddaughter and wanted something besides electronic entertainment. She even requested we play the 2 nd disc to hear the rest of the story. Great way to introduce some of the classics to our younger generation.

This telling of C.S. Lewis' beloved TLTWTW is very well done. The ultimate is to get your hands on the full set. It offers a great way to further enjoy this well crafted story for young and seasoned. Other works of Focus on the Family's Radio Theatre are also highly recommended. Happy listening.
