Product description

FIFA 2001: Major League Soccer is a Sports game, developed by EA Sports and published by Electronic Arts, which was released in Europe in 2000.

Review

FIFA 2001 is the latest game in the massively popular soccer franchise from EA Sports; like its predecessors, it's sure to find its way into many a football fan's stocking this Christmas.

Over 60 international teams are available, and you can take yours through a number of different game types, including playing a one-off friendly or attacking the full World Cup. While these might seem appealing, you're tempted also by the inclusion of the major European and American leagues--15 in all.

The Season option, on the other hand, lets you play up to three consecutive campaigns, with relegation and promotion available in a FIFA game for the first time, and with versions of the UEFA and European Champions Leagues also available.

Gameplay is not radically different from FIFA 2000, but there are new player animations, with a lot of attention placed on the keepers. First-time players will find it very easy to get into, although the learning curve through the game's difficulty levels can be surprisingly steep.

Nearly everything can be customized or changed on the fly as the game progresses. The graphics have been polished, and the game runs very smoothly. FIFA 2001 is full of detail: key stadiums are accurately modeled, and each team has the correct sponsor logo on its shirts--with the exception of Arsenal, for some reason.

FIFA 2001 is probably still the best pick-up-and-play soccer game available. It might lack the depth of the ISS series; but, for immediate accessibility, it's still the champion. --Michael Bartley -- Amazon.co.uk

FIFA 2001 is the best soccer game for the PSX. It has all of the national teams you could want (except Andorra)! It has most of the decent leagues in Europe. It's season game mode is great, because you get the Champions league, UEFA Cup, league, and league cups all in one mode. You can do it all seperately too! There are some drawbacks however. First of all, the game play can be slow, but if you put it on fastest it picks up. Some players aren't as good in the game as they are in real life, but you can always change it. That is the great part of this game you can customise almost anything, from jersey colors to names, to passing skill. The annoucers are awesome, and pretty funny too. The music is the best ever, something most soccer games lack, and because EA Sports rocks they got the licensing to have all the team and player names which makes it so much better than any ISS title. The one major problem is that once you get the hang of it scoring becomes easy (defending never does), and then you always win. Over-all however, FIFA 2001 Rocks, for true soccer fans it is the only game to buy.
FORZA JUVE!!!!

I have been a long time FIFA fan, dating way back to the original in '94 for Sega Genesis. I was very excited with this year's model....until I brought it home. While the huge pool of teams to choose from quite nice, the overall gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. I love soccer and enjoy the beauty of the game, unfortunately EA was unable to put that beauty into its game. A number of things are frustarting: (1) The goalkeepers leave a lot to be desired. While improved over past versions, they still do no justice to their human counterparts. (2) They do not charge out on crosses, do not charge on breakaways until the attacker is at the penalty stripe. (3) When on offense, your teammates just stand around, they don't make runs to try and get open to attack the net, your midfielders and defenders don't push up on the attack, so the only people that score are your forwards. (4) When playing the computer, when they are on offense, they always have people wide open, your defenders are no where to be found. All these things are rarely found on the real pitch on any level professional or otherwise. As a true fan of the glorious game of football, I'm left feeling frustrated, angry, and disappointed in what could've been. I wouldn't suggest buying this, if I could get my money back I would in a second.

I am a Brazilian Soccer Player and Fan I own all the Fifa's since FIFA 94. I believe this version is the best one of all but still with some bad mistakes as players skill(unreall)and just a few teams from South America.I don't understand how FIFA 2001 could have all the league teams from Austria,Belgium,Greece and Sweden. Sorry but who are they in Soccer's World??? What about the South American teams ?? Which club won the clubs World Cup in 2000?? Boca Juniors Anyway I play FIFA every single day with friends or against the PS(bad skills!)and I'm already waiting for the next release. If anyone want to change informations or cheats about FIFA please contact me and maybe some day we can play against each other and I can show a litlle bit more about the way Brazilians play this game.

I own FIFA 99',2000' and presently I own FIFA 2001. FIFA 2001 is by far the greatest soccer game I've played. In FIFA 99' and 2000' you could score tons of goals in any mode of play dut with FIFA 2001 this is the next best thing to actually playing a real soccer game. The graphics are outstanding and the feel of the game are excelent. There's much more Leagues that you can choose to play in. All the latest trades and transfers are up to date. As a hardcore soccer fan I have to demand more in the next FIFA soccer game. Future games should have the South American Leagues availible along with their Knock-out Cups, etc. Teams should be able to earn money as they finish Leagues and Cup Tournaments that they have entered. The amount of money given to each team should be based on how well they finished the League or Tournaments, etc. FIFA concentrates only on European teams and teir Leagues, more attention need to be given to other Leagues and Tournaments around the world to make a complete soccer game. Final verdict, FIFA 2001 rules until......

I am a huge soccer fan as well as an intently involved athlete in the game.FIFA is for Real.If you have ever seen a Pro Soccer match on TV this is almost exactly like one except you control it.I have become basically a master of this game crushing all oppenants as well as the computer on some of the hardest settings.I recently sold my PS1 in order to gain money for the purchase of a PS2,I sold quite a few PS1 games but this is one that I couldn't let go of.Really an excellent game.

this edition of FIFA just does not make the cut. i read the poor reviews, didn't believe them, and got a copy of FIFA yesterday. i played 1-and-a-half games and quit. the game is awful. what happened? i have been a EA-Sports soccer fan since World Cup '98 (classic game)....FIFA 99 was great...FIFA 2000 was pretty good, even with the horrible "Americanized commentary" added....but FIFA 2001? forget about it. the animation is choppy...the players don't move in a fluid motion...the pitch looks like crab grass...i'm tellin ya, i was so disappointed....i will say it was nice to hear John Motson back in the booth!! just to prove how great the other games were, i popped in FIFA '99 and World Cup '98 to play a couple matches...amazing difference. i always thought video games were supposed to get better with every addition to the catalog....FIFA 2001 is proof that just isn't the case. sorry EA-Sports, you really blew it with FIFA 2001....wait a minute...why am i apoligizing??? EA-Sports should apoligize to every FIFA fan....
