Product Description

Product Description

Thought you'd revived your social life after countless couch hours playing Soul Calibur? Guess again. Dead or Alive 2 brings more phenomenal fighting action to the Dreamcast with the gorgeous graphics and incredibly fast gameplay that Sega fans expect.

Dead or Alive 2's character-against-character action takes place in gorgeously rendered locations ranging from a cathedral to a moving elevator cage. In a special twist, characters can battle in multiple locations in many of the areas and interact with the environment. This means that the cathedral window is more than just a pretty background--it's just waiting for an opponent to be hurled through it and onto the fighting platform below. Perhaps the coolest feature of all is the Tag Battle mode--available to one-, two-, and four-player games--that enables fighters to summon a teammate into the action. A total of 12 male and female fighters are available, each boasting a slew of basic and special attacks, tag-team combos, reversals, and throws.

Amazon.com

While you may not be familiar with the original Dead or Alive--a run-of-the-mill fighting game most famous for the bouncing breasts of its female combatants--the sequel Dead or Alive 2 is a major-league contender that ranks up there with genre giants (including Soul Calibur and the Tekken series).

Dead or Alive 2 features drop-dead gorgeous visuals, with gracefully animated 3-D characters rendered in great (and in some cases, downright naughty) detail. Not merely scenic backdrops, the lavish 3-D arenas are also highly interactive: fighters get slammed and thrown against walls, and, in some cases, they can be thrown through windows and off ledges, with the camera viewpoint following the aggressor as he or she jumps down to the lower level of the arena to continue the punishment.

A game that plays as good as it looks, Dead or Alive 2 sports a rich combat system that's heavy on the counterattacks. Gameplay moves along at a blazingly fast pace, and the simple controls are easy to pick up on and make executing combo moves a breeze; this is a brawler that both button-mashers and hardcore gamers will enjoy.

Unlike other fighting games which contain hidden features that must be "unlocked," Dead or Alive 2 pretty much lays all its cards out on the table from the start. There are 12 fighters to choose from (each with at least one alternate costume) and seven modes of play are available (including tag battle mode and a two-on-two battle royal that up to four players can join). --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Drop-dead gorgeous visuals
  • Blazingly fast gameplay; simple yet effective controls
  • Highly interactive 3-D arenas
  • 7 modes of play, including tag battle mode Cons:
    • Virtually none to speak of

A lot of people say Soul Caliber is the game to have for the Dreamcast. There is some truth to that; but if were talking best fighting game this would easily draw Soul Caliber any day. The amazing graphics, speed of the gameplay, gorgeous backgrounds and scenery, Soul Cal has a tough time out-performing this one.

For one thing I really don't like comparing these two games because they are very different, so lets not mix up our apples and oranges! The fighting system is much more complex but you can pick it up with some practice. Also Instead of having a huge series of special moves you mostly use combos through out the game. There are also a multitude of martial arts that are displayed and they are real fighting styles. I also love how crisp the animation is and there is very little lag time. What also gives this game a huge bonus besides the hot boobs and fine booties of the female characters there are a lot of different modes to select. There is your usual story, vs mode, team battle and survival (soul Caliber has both very similar modes too) there is time attack which is like story just without the movie clips which by the way are one of the high points of the game in graphic design. There are a few short comings but they are very minor

The game could be a bit longer in story mode; and it would be awesome if you could use the last boss after you defeated him; he was an awesome creature. Also Survival mode is TOUGH, maybe if they just made it a tad bit easier maybe. Also a couple more characters would be cool too. Honestly though, this game doesn't have any real huge shortcomings its an excellent game overrall and I would recommend it to anybody. Its a great game to have during a house party when your passing around the beer and just having a good time! I also like the huge selection of fine lookin video vixens! Way better than some other video hoes COUGH COUGH TOMB COUGH RAIDER! If you got a dreamcast you gotta give this one a run.

What a difference three years can make! Coming out in 1999, DoA2 is miles away from it's 1996 predecessor. Not only were the graphics next-Gen Dreamcast fraische; but DoA2 has larger arenas, more characters, more moves, more costumes, and there's even a basic story line mode for each character. Needless to say, the subsequent DoA2 updates and following sequels took the series to even higher levels of gameplay and graphics, but playing this back-to-back with the Sega Saturn release of DoA1 truly makes you appreciate the advancements going from the 5th to the 6th generation of gaming.
This was one of the games that drove me to get a Dreamcast back in the day. The tier-based fighting arenas intrigued me and I was dazzled by the then state-of-the-art graphics.
Although the recent entries in the series are thoroughly enhanced, DoA2 still holds its own. It's been years since I played this game, and I recently re-bought it and spent several hours playing through the story and other modes. It definitely still holds up, and it's worth having in your collection, especially if you're a DoA fan.
The image quality is absolutely fantastic using the VGA connection.

While the PS2 version is a little easier to play, and English subtitles can be annoying to read all the time, when you're dealing with a true original, who cares? You can easily get used to the controls, the graphics lag in no way whatsoever, and t came in the original case. Did I mention the game is original? It's a great beginners item to the franchise, and truly showboats how impressive the Sega Dreamcast is. To be perfectly honest, I actually like this game MORE than the new games. Why, you may ask? This game has a different more authentic feel to it. Perhaps because it is on the Sega Dreamcast, or perhaps because you don't need to play the game 50 times to unlock hidden characters or even beat it! This game, yeah it's kinda easy, but it doesn;t ruin anything surprisingly... This game here must have been played out at the arcades,...it loads so terribly fast, and is just so overwhelmingly fun to get into. Even if you prefer 2d fighting games such as myself, you'll find that Dead or Alive satsifies the fighting appetite, and is quite intriguing and spectacular even to just watch someone else play once in a while. Of course, you'll want to have that second controller in your hand so you can master someones moves and beat the s*** out of your buddies! This game is a fast button masher, where perfecting blocks and counters would be in particular helpful, if you realize you cannot outmash someones hands! To me it's better than Virtua Fighter and Tekken and Rumble Roses. The only equivalent to this game would be those amazing Street Fighter Games or the orginal Mortal Kombat games, which of course I like the best on Sega 32 x, Mortal Kombat 2.

I bought two of these from different sellers and they will not start in my Dreamcast. I tried looking online but there is no info as to why this game does not run. It just shows the system menu.

DOA2 is a fun game to play with friends that can play it also.

First off the game has NO extras. That in itself is disappointing!

Secondly, the single player game [...] BIG time. As a result the team battles and versus battles with friends are all you will have to hang on to.

These 2 flaws really killed the game for me. I love extras and a good single player mode since I can't have friends over everyday.

On the plus side, the graphics are great and the gameplay is fun, espically with friends. I'll recommend this game as a good game to play with friends. If you don't have that option then you couls let it slip by.
