Seems this game was way better in my memories than I remember. Or maybe it's just too outdated . I mean, I've played forza horizon 3 , forza 6, and GT sport fairly recently. so popping this in, it just looks so pixelated, and the frame rate is pretty bad. I must admit the nostalgia was fun for a few races, but it wore off fast. glad it's back in my collection but i don't see myself playing it often.
It's better than the original Daytona USA on the Saturn. Smoother framerate, marginally improved graphics, and more courses and cars. But, the new remixed music isn't nearly as good as what was in the original, and the handling is somewhat more difficult.
Otherwise, top notch, and should probably be purchased over the original, unless the remixed music is a concern. If you own the original already, this version isn't a completely necessary upgrade, but it is definitely improved.
Daytona USA is one of Sega's finest racing games, and should definitely be in every Saturn owner's library.
Daytona USA CCE is the second version of the game, and it seems that the other reviewers covered the differences between the two quite well so I'll just talk on this game solely. Daytona USA CCE was the first racing game I bought for my SS, and I loved it from the moment I put it in the system. ( and to this day ) Daytona USA is a one or two player racing game that boasts six tracks, and nine cars. ( one of them is a hidden car ) The courses are: Three Seven Speedway, Dinosaur Canyon, Seaside Street Galaxy, National Park Speedway, ( my favorite ) Desert City, and the ever difficult, Silver Ocean Causeway. The cars that are available: #19 The Hornet, #27 Gallop, #02 Max, #08 Phoenix, #16 Oriole, ( sounds like a cookie ) #33 Magic, #41 Wolf, #99 Balance, and the hidden car ( if you finish first on all the tracks ) Daytona USA Blue Hornet. The game moves along quite nicely at over 30 fps, and sports one of the best music soundtracks of any gave ever! It's done by Richard Jacques and Jun Senoue, both famous video game composers. When you race in the Seaside Street Galaxy course keep an eye out for the statue of Jeffery, ( from Virtua Fighter ) and when you pass him, if you press X he'll start dancing. ( Oooooh ) I've always loved games that don't take themselves to seriously. Also there are GREAT cheat codes to make the game as strange as you want, you can play: Mirror Mode, race on Uma or Uma-2, ( they're horses ) Hovercraft mode, No CPU cars, Alternate car mode, and Play as The Blue Hornet Super-car. The game is dated if compared to today's games, but " SO WHAT " it's a great game even today. The graphics are great, the game-play is tight, and the music rocks. Daytona USA CCE is one of the best Sega Saturn racers out there. It can still be had for 15-30$ on Amazon, so what's stopping you from owning this great arcade to SS port? This game needs to be in your SS collection!!! " Happy ( arcade ) Racing! "
The Good old days, playing Sega Saturn,VF 2, VC 1 and 2, Daytona Usa and a demo or two. still have my system. I remember in Daytona USA when you would pass Jeffrey on one of the tracks and you could turn him around by pressing the buttons. And also when you passed under the Overpass on the Main track with the slots. Very cool Game.
