First of all I do SPOIL/ GIVE away information about the movie, so please be aware of this. If you are looking for a movie like Saw, Friday the 13th, and other gory horror movies, then this one is NOT for you. It was an intense film, often disturbing, and at times scary. However, in this movie there was little blood and gore shown. What was mostly presented to the audience was an understanding of what the killer was doing, not only to his victims, but also the Rabbit character. On average, (SPOILER ALERT) the killer brought a girl into the house, and she would be crying/ screaming. He would then take her into the bedroom, and more screams, as the camera remained on Rabbit. Only later, as Rabbit cleaned up the mess, would you see bits and pieces of the mutilated bodies.
However, do not assume that there were no graphic scenes, because there certainly were! One such scene included the killer as a teenager, and being forced to have relations with his own mother...gross!
The one part about this film that I LOVED the most, was that the audience stayed within the killer's world, and rarely escaping it. Unfortunately, many horror movies spend little time within the killer's world, and the majority is consumed with a love story, a cop trying to solve the murders, and so on. In this film the audience knew little about what was really going on in the outside world. Were the police looking for Rabbit? What time of year was it? The audience, at times, could become just as disoriented as the Rabbit character himself.
However, this movie was not perfect, and did have it's flaws. (1) I know that the scene about incest was necessary for the audience to understand how the killer became mentally unhinged. However, no way was/is any man/ teenager (I don't care how threatened they feel) going to get an er----tion and have relations with their own mother! No way! It was a powerful and disturbing scene (made me sick to my stomach), but very un-realistic. (2) What happened to the Angie character? Did she escape? If so, why did she not go to the police, and report the crime/ help Rabbit? Or was Angie chained to the bed/ taking on Rabbit's old role as servant? Rabbit kept her? This scenario would certainly explain why she ends up clean and sleeping on Rabbit's bed. (3) I loved the ending, and the role the father played in the film. The father's actions explained why the killer wanted Rabbit to follow in his footsteps/ did not kill Rabbit at the beginning. However, I did not like how Rabbit returned to the killer's house at the end of the film? He did not get help? What? I understand that Rabbit was suppose to be so far gone (mentally) that there was no way he could live a normal life, and he stayed in the house. However, this didn't fully work for me, due to the fact of how much help there is for these types of victims(now a days). Perhaps if the film was a period piece from a hundred years ago it would have made more sense? I don't know, the ending works for some, but it did not work for me.
However, despite these flaws it was an excellent movie. The acting was believable, and the story kept me entertained. I would like to see more movies made like this one.

As stated above, this is a true psychological thriller with a twist at end of it. The director of the movie does an excellent job of getting her point across, in how relatable this movie is in real life, because things of this nature happens every day, all of the time and it brings awareness and wakes us up to the evil nature in certain disturbed, sick individuals and what they are truly capable of when not getting help for trauma that they have been through in their lives, when left as unhealed and undiagnosed. My only issue for this review was the ending leaves you hanging with too many questions unanswered and leaving the rest up to the audience to figure it all out for ourselves and the movie could have been stretched out or maybe this is a potential indicator for a continuation of this film. Tim's Father played by Jake Weber is certainly no angel like his sick, psychopath of a Brother Bob Vincent D'Onofrio, who both suffered and were both subjected to the terrible, horrific things that their monster of a father did to them and their mother.

The fact that the good guy didn't win in this film is a relief. We still have a good guy winning almost every film. Life isn't like that though.

The bad guy was right, he did return. His return is very deep. He went into the world, confronted his murderous father, saved a woman from being beat, and went back to the house of slaughter.

But the guy who was good actually did win in a sense..... I meant "the good guy" as in someone saves the women and no one is harmed. This happens a lot in Comicbook movies.

If you're over 30 you should recall a time when only the good guys won. My main beef with this is it makes the movie predictable. Ok we know Tom Cruise is going to save the day, but how will he do it? Will he be shot more than the typical one time, or go through a hail of bullets [Remember the GI Joe TV show in the 1980s?] and not get hit once. But of course one person we like dies, so it's one of the supporting actors. In the Dark Knight is was the broad, in The Shining is was the black guy, etc. This movie did not have this predictability. And for those who was the happy after ending, and you're looking for the part that will turn the tide and light will blind the darkness, you will be bloody disappointed. -disciple4lif #DisciplesOfJesus

If there's one person that can convincingly act insane, it's Vincent D'onofrio. Most people portraying a mentally ill person go straight for the cliche route. (Eyes wide open, disheveled hair/ clothes, you get the point.) He played the part so well that I was actually starting to feel sorry for his character. It makes me think of this sentence I read. "Psychopaths are born, sociopaths are made." Makes me wonder if Bob would have been a normal adult had he been raised differently. The acting, pacing, cinematography, writing, lighting, sound, and effects are all great. The actor playing Rabbit is phenomenal. And that ending.... The multiple twists were unexpected and well done. I have two theories about what we hear while the credits rolled. My first theory is that he added his father's murder into the scrapbook and left the house for good. My second theory, the one I'm leaning towards, is that he does follow in Bob's footsteps. BUT his victims are men that commit some sort of violence against women/ children. Based on how he acted when Bob tried to get him to kill, and the fact that he let the Angie character live, presumably, I just don't see him killing women. Both of his "victims" were men that harmed women. I absolutely loved how his stepmother protected him by telling him to leave. A woman he knew for less than five minutes cared more about him than his own father. Definitely watching this movie again!

Mich erschrecken seit jeher Filme in denen es um Kinder geht- vorallem Horror oder Thriller... sie jagen mir eine Gänsehaut ein. Aber dieser düstere Film war für mich wie ein Schlag in die Magengrube.

Die Story ist schnell und kurz erklärt:
Ein Killer entführt eine Mutter und ihren Sohn in einem Taxi, die Mutter wird getötet und den Jungen behält er zuerst hält er ihn wie ein Haustier, dann als Diener, der die Leichen und die Verschmutzungen weg putzen darf.. das Leben des Jungen ist fortan geprägt durch Prügel, Züchtigung und striktem Gehorsam seinem Peiniger gegenüber... angekettet im Haus.

Ein Film, der einem richtig die Beklemmung, das Ausgeliefert sein und die Ängste vermitteln, die schauspielerische Leistung ist unglaublich.

Von mir 5 von 5 Sterne, da mich dieser Film wirklich getroffen hat und er regt auch ein wenig zum Nachdenken an... wie konnte es soweit kommen, was macht Menschen zu Bestien und er ist so schön gesellschaftskritisch.

La Lynch si dimostra figlia di cotanto padre (non mancano le frecciatine al cinema visionario di papà: i neon, i giardinetti con villette dove sotto "cova il marcio", l'urlo muto di "Coniglio", i flash incubotici, il tugurio del serial killer con televisore-quasi- sempre acceso), destabilizza e, a volte, picchia duro (i terrifici flash con incesto forzato madre/figlio, sotto le direttive di un padre perverso e sadico), entrando nella vita quotidiana di un serial killer, raggiungendo vette feroci e disturbanti alla Henry pioggia di sangue. Malsano, ma anche pervaso da una "educazione genitoriale nell'uccidere", dove le vittime sono viste con distacco, quasi come se fossero dei pezzi di carne da fare a pezzi, per poi seppelirle nello scantinato

Straordinario, visivamente e per angoscia, tutto l'incipt iniziale con Julia Ormond e suo figlio , da quando escono di casa, fino al rapimento del "taxi driver" collezionista di corpi (un Vincent D'Onofrio sudicio e "cannibalico", che definire immenso e poco)

Poi la "convivenza" forzata tra il serial killer e il "giovane apprendista" (suo malgrado) nella fetida casa degli orrori, dagli studi di anatomia (l'ossessione lynchiana per il corpo umano, buon sangue non mente), al trapasso generazionale dell'arte nell'uccidere (con un rito di "iniziazione sessuale" che mette i brividi)

La Lynch non molla mai la tensione, nemmeno nei momenti "morti", con una suspence costante che entra sottopelle

E se esce dalla casa, lo fa con flash terribili, scorrazzate notturne alla Ted Bundy e scorci di vita quotidiana del tassista di D'Onofrio (da antologia quando carica a bordo un padre despota e suo figlio, che le rammentano dolorosi ricordi)

Evita il gran guignol (anche se le gole squarciate delle vittime zampillano sangue quasi fulciano), mostrando la vittima ora preda in tentate fughe (la ragazza mezza nuda e tagliuzzata che cerca l'uscita della casa), o "portate" a casa (la prostituta ubriaca che cerca il bagno per fare pipì) e dispensa un atmosfera lurida e malsana che entra nella pelle, con corpi femminili villipesi e martoriati

Il pre finale può sembrare "convenzionale" (ma la tensione va a mille), e il twist finale arriva come una doccia fredda , con chiusa (sui titoli di coda senza musiche, ma con i rumori di fondo del protagonista) inquietante

Momenti che rimangono nella memoria: Tutta la parte, nella fetida stanzina, con la giovane Angie-che ha pure le piante dei piedi sporche-; "HELP" scritto sulla portiera del taxi; Il gioco con le carte d'identità delle vittime, come se fosse una partita a briscola; la prima tentata fuga di "Coniglio" sul tetto della casa del serial killer sperduta nel nulla; gli incubi di D'Onofrio; il rapporto distorto padre e figlio

Che Jennifer (nel film appare anche in un ruolo cameo, e la cuoca che cucina in tv , mentre D'Onofrio fà zapping in tv) fosse una autrice straordinaria lo aveva già confermato già nella sua opera prima (Boxing Helena rimane per me un cult novantiano assoluto, e anche qui qualcosa da "inscatolare" c'è-soprattutto nel finale me lo ha fatto venire in mente), ma qui rinasce di una maturità e di una visceralità che lasciano il segno, (ri)confermandosi autrice di razza e personalissima

Cinema raggelante e intinto nel fetido, quasi necroforo e con quel sentore marciscente da "crime movie" che fà sembrare i Saw giochetti per bambini, e porta in superficie reminiscenze di Maniac e Henry

Forse il "crime movie" più intenso degli ultimi anni

Nein, Chained sollte man sich nicht ansehen, wenn man einen "ruhigen Gruselfilm" schauen möchte. Ich bin mir auch nicht sicher, ob dass etwas mit der Phantasie zu tun hat. Es ist aber ein Film, dass man nicht vergisst.
Und, es ist ein Werk von Jennifer Chambers Lynch aus dem Jahr 2012 (man braucht die Tochter von David Lynch nicht vorzustellen, sie hat schon 1993 mit "Boxing Helena" bewiesen, dass sie den Namen Lynch eigentlich nicht als "Reklame" braucht).

Den Film habe ich schon vor Jahren gesehen; manchmal will man einen Schock noch einmal erleben. Dann reicht es aber.
Über den Inhalt möchte ich nicht viel verraten, obwohl da nichts Ungewöhnliches geschieht, weil ALLES nicht normal ist (was bedeutet das Wort "Normalität"?).

Eine junge Frau, Sarah Fittler (Julia Ormond) mit ihrem Sohn Tim, 9 Jahre jung (gespielt von Evan Bird) nimmt sich ein Taxi. Der Ehemann, Brad (Jake Weber) rät ihr dazu. Und sagt, die 40 USD sind kein Geld, sie sollen nach der Kinovorstellung nicht mit dem Bus fahren. Draußen ist jedoch hell und sonnig, die Gegend scheint ruhig zu sein.

Als sie ein Taxi rufen will, kommt schon einer, die Worte "Comfort" sieht man sofort, und die beiden steigen ein. Sie sprechen über den Film, Tim lacht, weil seine Mutter bei einigen Szenen angst bekomme hat (oder sie tut nur so, damit Tim mit mehr Freude den Inhalt erzählt). Sie ruft noch den Ehemann an und kündigt ihre Heimfahrt.
Doch, es geht nicht nach Hause...der Taxifahrer biegt an einer anderen Kreuzung ab.

Die Fahrt endet irgendwo im Nirgendwo. Tim muss teils mitansehen und mithören, wie der Taxifahrer, Bob (Vincent D’Onofrio) seine Mutter umbr***

Der Junge bleibt jetzt bei ihm. Sein Name wird ihm genommen, Bob ruft ihn nur noch Rabbitt. Er bekommt zu essen, wenn Bob gegessen hat, er putzt, schrubbt, kocht...er ist ein Sklave. Als er einmal versucht aus dem Haus zu fliehen, wird er gekettet. Es gibt KEINEN Weg aus der Hölle, das bemerkt er schnell.
Er lebt wahrlich in einer Hölle. Bob kommt ziemlich oft mit Frauen, die alle im Haus verschwinden und Tim muss dabei zupacken. Was er sieht, ist für ein Kind...nicht zu beschreiben.

Jahre vergehen, Tim (jetzt dargestellt durch Eamon Farren) ist ein großer, dünner Junge geworden, der nie die Sonne sieht. Seine Arbeit ist schrecklich. Er muss auch eine Art von Tagebuch führen über die Frauen, die spurlos verschwunden sind.

Bob, ein ungepflegter, dicklicher Mann will den Jungen nun zum Lernen animieren. Er soll die menschliche Anatomie kennen, damit er weiß, was sein "Mentor" da macht. Es folgen makabre Spielen, die Strafen sind immer...der Essensentzug, die körperlichen..., alles schlimm...die Jahre hindurch.
Aber, Bob will, dass Rabbitt nun auch seine Arbeit tut. Er muss sich ein Mädchen "aussuchen"...Angie (Conor Leslie) ist zufällig der Opfer.
Er weiß es, wenn er sie nicht..., macht es Bob.
Was er nicht weiß, Bob filmt alle Handlungen, die Tim tut, damit er später sein privates Programm sehen kann.

Nach Angie ist Rabbitt ein gestandener Mann, so denkt auch Bob. Sie wollen, so Bob's Plan, jetzt beide nach den Opfern suchen. Wie das aussieht, sollte man nicht verraten.

WIE KANN EIN KIND nach Jahren ohne äußerliche Einflüsse, ohne jegliche Art von Zuneigung sich körperlich und SEELISCH entwickeln? Wird er mit dem Peiniger kooperieren (wie die Geiseln - Stockholm Syndrom)? Ist es möglich, dass die ersten neun Jahren, die Tim/Rabbitt mit der Mutter (die ihn sehr geliebt hat) verbracht hat, doch prägnanter sind als die schlimmen Taten, die er als Geisel erlebt?

Er ist total abhängig von Bob, der entscheidet über sein Leben (buchstäblich). Tim lebt in einem Haus, dessen Fenster zugenagelt sind. Nicht, dass man ihn finden konnte. Das Haus steht ja...
Eine Küche, ein Fernseher; "Schauen wir uns an, ob wir wieder in Nachrichten stehen...die bl** Polizei hat keine Ahnung...", sagt Bob und sitzt auf einem Sessel, nicht gerade appetitlich...Er macht Tim/Rabbitt zu seinem Komplizen.
Alles scheint statisch zu sein, was dem Film nicht so zugute kommt, all die Jahre ist alles gleich...Als ob in 10 Jahren (sind es vielleicht mehr?) das Haus sich nicht verändert hat. Nur Tim wächst, Bob bleibt irgendwie gleich, man glaubt fast, er trägt die gleiche Kleidung.

Ob Tim nach Jahren noch angst hat, kann man nicht genau wissen. Er scheint fast apathisch zu sein, er fügt sich, er kämpft nicht (mehr).
Doch, die Bücher, die er lesen/studieren muss (damit er etwas weiß), sind zwar keine klassische Literatur, aber sie öffnet ihm die Augen für einige Möglichkeiten. Auch das ist nur eine Vermutung.

Mit Bob hat man keine Sekunde lang "Mitleid". Man sieht zwar in Rückblenden, dass er schlimme Sachen erlebt hat, doch das kann keine Entschuldigung sein. Er ist ein tief gestörter Mensch mit Zügen der Psychopathie (sehr ausgeprägt). Er will nur das fortsetzen, was er selbst gekannt hat. Dazu braucht er einen willigen Jungen/Menschen, den er nicht als Mensch sieht. Tim ist ein Gegenstand.

Ob man die Geschichte als möglich erkennt oder nicht (leider gibt es Ähnliche...), das Ende ist etwas weit weg von dem wahren Leben.
Und, das sind die Mängel, die dem Film einiges nehmen. Wollte Jennifer Lynch, wie das üblich ist, den Zuschauer*innen eine "Möglichkeit" bieten, sich selbst den Epilog auszudenken?

FAZIT: ein Film, der mit versteckten Bildern punktet, man sieht trotz der Taten nicht alles, doch manchmal sind die Gedanken dahinter schlimmer. Ein Vincent D’Onofrio, der perfekt spielt, was nicht leicht ist.
Die Rolle von Tim/Rabbitt ist nicht so konsistent, man möchte doch mehr erfahren, wie er die Jahre überstanden hat (außer mit Strafen...).
Die anderen Rollen sind nicht sehr groß, Julia Ormond spielte schon in "Unter Kontrolle" die Hauptrolle (sehr gut), sie ist auch bei David Lynch in "Inland Empire" zu sehen. Eine sehr gute Darstellerin, auf die man zählen kann.

Der Film zeigt ein Haus, eine weite Landschaft...als ob man am Ende der Welt leben würde. Aber in die Stadt zu kommen braucht Bob, der Taxifahrer, nicht sehr lange. Die Stadt scheint nicht groß und nicht klein zu sein...es ist verwundenderlich, dass er nie im Visier der Polizei gestanden ist...
Für mich zwischen 3-4 Sterne, alle "verloren" wegen der letzten Teil.

Sehenswert, wenn man nachher eine gute Komödie sieht. Naja, Slasher gibt es, sie sind ein Teil der Filmkultur.
Bewusst habe ich über die psychischen Symptome/Syndrome nicht viel erzählt. Eine Diagnose zu stellen ist manchmal zu leicht und nicht immer ratsam!
