I thought the storyline was really good when the father goes searching for his son no matter what. The effects were so cool. Great Disaster film to watch over again.

Wie fast alle dystopischen Katastrophenfilme unter der Feder von Roland Emmerich setzt dieser ebenfalls auf eine bildgewaltige Botschaft eines möglichen Klimawandels: In diesem Fall durch das Versagen des Strömungskreislaufes der Meere.

Was die Wenigsten vielleicht wissen, haben wir in Europa unser recht angenehmes Klima durchwegs dem Golfstrom zu verdanken, der warmes Wasser aus der Äquatorialebene in die kühleren Gefilde transportiert. Auf diese Weise ist es möglich, dass in Frankreich oder in Deutschland Wein angebaut werden kann, während auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent dies vielleicht nicht möglich ist und das obwohl die möglichen Anbauorte geographisch gesehen auf dem gleichen Breitengrad wie jene auf dem europäischen Kontinent liegen.

Ob durch das sogenannte Aussüßen der Meere dieser Kreislauf wie im Film dargestellt zum Erliegen kommt? Ja dies könnte durchaus möglich sein, wenn ich das Abschmelzen der Pole, insbesondere des Nordpols bedenke. Ich habe in meiner VHS-Sammlung nämlich noch eine uralte Universum-Dokumentation über die Arktis aus den 80-iger Jahren, in welcher das Packeis noch gigantische Ausmaße hat. Wenn ich diese alte Dokumentation mit den neueren über die Arktis vergleiche, kann ich dem Packeis direkt beim Schwinden zusehen und das noch während ich mir diese Dokus im Fernsehen ansehe. Aus diesem Grund bejahe ich das Szenario eines Klimawandels durchaus und halte auch das in dem Film dargestellte Szenario eines Aussüßens der Meere und das damit verbundene Erliegen des Strömungskreislaufes durchaus für möglich.

Ob dieser allerdings alleine menschengemacht ist oder gar die in dem Film geschilderte Ausmaße annimmt - noch dazu in dieser galoppierenden zeitrafferartigen Geschwindigkeit - darüber scheiden sich freilich die Geister - ich glaube ehrlich gesagt nicht daran, dass bei Helikoptern oder Flugzeugen allein aufgrund eines durch einen Klimawandel geschuldeten Wetterphänomens die Temperaturen derartig stark sinken, dass die Treibstoffleitungen einfrieren und diese aus diesem Grund abschmieren (inkl. Schockfrostung der überlebenden Piloten), sorry. Dieser Umstand ist wohl mehr der Fiction geschuldet und weniger auf Science zurückzuführen.

Wie jeder Katastrophenfilm setzt auch The day after tomorrow somit auf - wenn auch sehr gezielt eingesetzte - Übertreibungen von möglichen Wetterszenarien. Dies fängt schon mit dem bereits erwähnten Abschmieren der englischen Helikopter über Schottland durch das Einfrieren der Treibstoffleitungen an und hört bei der Verwüstung von Los Angeles durch mehrere gewaltige Hypercanes (gigantischen Hurycanes) auf.

Wer aber auf einen wirklich gut gemachten Katastrophenfilm steht, ist mit dieser DVD aber sehr gut bedient, denn wir sollten uns eines bewusst sein: Es ist zwar utopisch und auch wenn für meinen Geschmack bei den im Film geschilderten Szenarien etwas sehr, aber wirklich sehr viel Fiction und etwas sehr wenig Science dabei ist, könnte der Klimawandel ähnliche Ausmaße annehmen, weshalb etwas Achtsamkeit gegenüber unserer Mutter Erde durchaus angebracht wäre, denn die Natur tut sich in einem sehr schwer, nämlich im Verzeihen.
