Great rock. Smells when new.
I had a similar issue with receiving the wrong size rock than what I paid for, but unlike the other reviewers, I got the better end of the deal :-) Paid for large, got extra large. Turns out it still fits in my tank (just barely) so I'm not complaining.This is a very nice rock. It's heavy, so it doesn't float. It looks very natural, and the fish love going in and out of the holes and cavities. My only problem with it is that it smells! The stench was impressive when I pulled the rock out of its box - very strong chemical smell. I was worried to put that in with my fish, even though it's supposed to be "safe and non-toxic". I washed it thoroughly several times, left it to air dry for several days, then washed it some more... and put it in, still smelling. It has been in the tank 5 months now, no fatalities, but it still smells every time I open the tank to feed my fish. I guess that's how it's gonna be, but damn.UPDATE: I have now had this rock for 9 years - wow, time flies! - and I love it! It stopped smelling at some point, though I don't remember how long it took. The fish and live plants didn't seem to care. Nobody died or got sick. I have live plants anchored to the rock now growing on its surface and it looks beautiful!One thing to note is that this rock's surface is extremely durable. It still has all of the color and detail, which can't be said for the other brand rock I have in my tank. I have aquatic snails (nerites and mystery) and they scrape everything, which is great because they clean up all my algae. But the downside is that any paint job that's not done well is gonna be damaged by the snails. They have completely stripped the paint off of my other rock, and now it's bright white, fake looking and very ugly. This rock however, has sustained absolutely no damage, and still looks great! So I totally recommend it for tanks with snails. And for any tanks in general. It's a great rock!
