Customer Feedback
As is the case with any vehicle or brand, there have been a variety of consumer reports asking Alfa Romeo owners to share their experience with their vehicles. In 2022, a UK-based magazine company called What Car? surveyed 14,000 car owners, asking them to share their experience with vehicle faults, with categories including battery, bodywork, brakes, engine, exhaust, exterior lights, fuel system, gearbox, interior trim, and more.
Vehicle owners were asked how much time their car spent off the road as a result of their reported faults, as well as how much the vehicle cost to repair and if the manufacturer's warranty covered it. By the end of the survey, each vehicle was rated based on reliability and ranked against their competitors.
Alfa Romeo was awarded fifth place out of thirty-two manufacturers, outperforming many well known "safe" brands as well as more prestigious ones, disproving the myth that drivers are consistently disappointed by their vehicles.
Reports such as this are pretty reliable overall since car owners are the ones who are both driving and reporting the issues that they are facing. In that sense, feedback comes straight from the horse's mouth. Additionally, many surveys such as this one questions a huge number of participants to get the most reliable feedback. Many surveys also take into consideration factors such as recalls or faults.
Reliability
Alfa Romeo does have a reputation for being unreliable and having significant malfunctions, but feedback from drivers beg to differ. While rumors that Alfa Romeos have unforgivable reliability issues abound, leading customers to believe that there might be credibility in the claim that they have higher-than-average faults, this is simply not true.
In fact, much of the negative press surrounding Alfa Romeos date back to models like the Alfasud, a small family car produced in the 70s with a track record for rust and other miscellaneous faults. Newer models don't face the same issues, and new cars rank high for dependability.
In the US, you can find three models: the Giulia, the Stelvio, and the Tonale.
Alfa Romeo Giulia
Sleek and sporty, the Guilia's style helps it to stand out from other vehicles on South Carolina roads. Ranking high with reliability, the Giulia might just be the most reliable Alfa Romeo vehicle in the U.S. market. As a sports sedan, the design is somewhat reminiscent of the designs of competitors, but the Giulia is still able to put in its own unique design elements.
Even more than just style and aesthetic, the Alfa Romeo Giulia packs a powerful punch with an engine that performs well. While driving a sports sedan like this, you can expect fast acceleration, clean handling, and thrilling speed capabilities.
Most Giulia models come with a 280 horsepower 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-four engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It comes standard with rear-wheel drive and is available with all-wheel drive. In the Giulia Quadrifoglio, only one configuration is offered: A Ferrari-sourced 505 horsepower 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio
The Stelvio is the only crossover SUV offered by Alfa Romeo. The Stelvio combines power and practicality, with top-of-the-line performance and the dynamic handling of a sports car, creating a powerful sight on the road. It more than satisfies the urge to go fast, and pulls heavily from Alfa Romeo's racing history.
A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission that works together for a quick acceleration that allows the Stelvio to power through anything ahead of it. The Stelvio is performance driven and infused with technological solutions, with a distinct design and aesthetic to captivate any South Carolina driver.
Alfa Romeo Tonale
Classic in style, the Tonale makes steps to embrace an electric future as Alfa Romeo steps into their electric journey. The Tonale is a hybrid SUV with a classic Alfa Romeo design in SUV form.
Named after one of Italy's highest mountain passes, the SUV encapsulates the curves, lines, and bends you can find in nature. The Tonale is powerful, including options for a standard engine or a plug-in hybrid powertrain with an impressive hybrid range that can easily take you wherever you want to go.
Maintenance
The reality of owning a car, be it a top-of-the-line race-inspired one or a low-budget sedan with minimal bells and whistles, is maintenance. With routine maintenance like refilling fluids, changing your oil, switching out wiper blades or headlight bulbs, or even getting a car wash, regular care and maintenance of your vehicle can keep it running smoothly.
The more dreaded type of maintenance is the kind where you need to bring your car into a shop, leaving you without transportation while it gets repaired. For some makes and models, parts are easy to come by and cheap to repair. The reality of owning an Alfa Romeo is that this might not be the case.
An Alfa Romeo fault can sometimes end up quite pricey. The good news, as aforementioned, is that these repairs aren't all that common - chances are your car won't break down at all. But the downside is that if it does break down, it can cost a pretty penny to repair. It is a luxury brand, after all, with parts that come unique to the model.
To minimize the risk of any major issues, make sure to keep current with all of the day to day and month to month maintenance like we mentioned before.
Common Problems
Being reliable doesn't mean that Alfa Romeos are completely immune to problems. Common problems don't mean that you should expect them to happen to you, just that the most frequently occurring problems fall into some of these categories.
Generally, faults are minor. Some faults can include issues with the suspension, axle, or traction, as well as certain electrical faults such as the heated seats or the alarm system. More serious faults like the engine or the gearbox are less common.
These non-serious faults, however infrequently they may occur, are a risk that the majority of drivers are willing to forgive, especially in the face of the other premium features and elements of the Italian brand.
At the end of the day, you can rest assured that the majority of maintenance or faults, they are almost always minor issues that can be easily remedied.
Superior Performance
For almost a century, Alfa Romeo has been innovating. From performance to design, technology and luxury, the Italian automaker has been striving to push the limits of luxury to bring consumers the best of the best. Even with their history in the U.S. market, where many companies would settle for decent, Alfa Romeo pushed for greatness.
With an engine like the Quadrifoglio, Alfa Romeo cars continue to push the limits of performance in their respective classes. The Giulia and Stelvio models, the Ferrari-designed Quadrifoglio engine puts out an impressive 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque
This makes the Alfa Romeo Giulia the performance leader in its class, and gives owners a truly unique driving experience with other premium racing-inspired features like upgraded Brembo brakes, torque-vectoring rear differential that can transfer 100 percent of available power to either rear wheel, and an adaptive suspension. The Quadrifoglio model sets the standard for performance and is available on both Giulia and Stelvio models.
When considering superior performance, if you're looking for a powerful system that packs a wealth of luxury, comfort, and safety features, the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio is at the top of the list. Even the standard Giulia, Stelvio, and Tonale are performance powerhouses.
Regardless of your performance needs, Alfa Romeo has a model to rise to the occasion.
Design
When Greenville residents shop for a luxury car, they want one that is as beautiful as it is luxurious. That's where Alfa Romeo's Italian design comes in. South Carolina drivers know that Alfa Romeo cars stand out on the roads, but Alfa Romeo's design extends beyond just the exterior.
Alfa Romeo's interior design has been widely praised by reviewers and owners alike for its easy-to-use yet refined identity. There's nothing worse than stepping into a luxury car, only to find that the interior is indistinguishable from any other vehicle on the road. That's not a problem with Alfa Romeo.
Unlike some competitors, Alfa Romeo doesn't skimp on tech features or restrict them only to upper trim levels. Their cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed by their owners, whether seeking sport, luxury, or anything in between.
Warranty
But what about their warranty? The last thing you want is to buy a luxury car only to be needing to pay for expensive repairs. That's why Alfa Romeo's warranty is one of the best in the luxury car business. Alfa Romeo offers a 5-year or 75,000 mile warranty that also includes 3 years of free scheduled service and 5 years of free roadside assistance.
Most luxury manufacturers, like Audi and BMW, limit these kinds of warranties to 3 years. Alfa Romeo's warranty not only demonstrates the confidence that their cars are well-made and reliable but also a commitment to their owners. If you want a well-designed, reliable luxury vehicle, there's no better choice than an Alfa Romeo.
