Grandview Medical Center opened a new freestanding emergency department in Trussville this week.

The 12,500-square-foot facility, at 5542 Vanelerberghe Lane just off U.S. 11 next to the Trussville Board of Education, offers 24/7 emergency services with nine examination rooms, five Fast Track rooms, on-sit laboratory services and diagnostic imagin for X-ray, CT, and ultrasound.

There is also a helipad on site for transporting patients by helicopter.

The staff includes emergency physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and other patient care professionals.

Grandview said that many emergency services can be effectively managed at the freestanding emergency department without the need for transfer to a traditional hospital setting, but if a higher level of care is need, patients can be quickly transported by ambulance or medical helicopter services to the Grandview Medical Center on U.S. 280 or the facility of the patient’s choice.
