Waste tyres do not decompose easily in the nature and cause to many environmental problems. Although, 24 million tyres / y are produced and 8.5 million (180.000 t) of these amount become waste in Turkey, these waste tyres are not evaluated properly. Indeed, waste tyres can be used as a new source of energy and raw material through some thermal processes. One of the thermal processes is pyrolysis that waste tyres can be converted into gas, oil and solid product. For instance, solid product can be used as carbon black with some quality improvements especially removal of ash and sulphur. In this study, it was focused on the improvement of solid product quality in pyrolysis of TDF. For this aim, TDF sample consists of different waste tyre types (SBR-Styrene-butadiene Rubber, CBR-Cis Polybutadiene Rubber) was pyrolysed by using a fixed bed reactor, at 400 ° C with 5 º C/min heating rate. Sulphur and ash content of TDF and solid product samples were determined and compared with commercial...

The Effect of Catalyst Ratio on the Pyrolysis Yields for Waste Tyre2019 •
Abstract: Over the years, the prospective of end-of-life tyres as a source of fuel, a chemical feedstock and carbonaceous material through pyrolysis has been explored immensely. Through literature review evaluation and analysis, this paper aims to present and discuss the development of waste tyre pyrolysis process as well as the derived products with their possible application pathways. The various reactors that can be employed during the pyrolysis process are discussed. Furthermore, the different types of pyrolysis processes as well as their influence on product yield are highlighted. The paper drew the conclusion that the pyrolysis literature which has been continuously developed over the years emphasize the need to fully understand how operating conditions such as temperature, pressure, heating rate, retention time, feed size; material feed rate ; reactor selection and the type of pyrolysis influence the selection and optimization of product stream/s

This paper reviews and discusses the waste tyre pyrolysis process and the applications of the derived products. The primary and secondary applications of oil, char, gas and steel wires are discussed. The paper also reviews the influence of operating parameters such as feed size, temperature and residence time. An analysis of the pyrolysis products market is also given. The study objectives were achieved through a triangulation procedure comprising of literature analysis, site visits and as well as personal and telephonic interviews. The paper concludes by discussing the successes and failures of the pyrolysis process.

Production, Characterization and Evaluation of Pyrolysis Oil from Tyre Wastes Available in BangladeshGlobally, scrap tyres are increasing due to the increased number of vehicles. In contrast, in the recent years, alternatives to fossil fuels are exploring to overcome the fossil fuel crisis. In this study, pyrolysis of bicycle and rickshaw tyres wastes was conducted and parametric effects (e.g., the effect of temperature, feed size and apparent vapor residence time etc.) on the pyrolysis product yields were determined. A fixed bed electric heating reactor was used for pyrolysis at 400 - 550 oC, maintaining various particles sizes and a constant heating rate of 20oC/min. The optimum Tyre Pyrolysis Oil (TPO) yield of 42 wt.% was obtained at 500 oC for a sample size of 4.0 cm3. The fuel properties (e.g., density, viscosity, calorific value, flash point, pour point, sulphur content, ash content etc.), functional group studies of the TPO were determined and was compared with the conventional fuel and with international standards. The physico-chemical properties of TPO confirm the use of ...

Production of Oil and Char by Intermediate Pyrolysis of Scrap Tyres: Influence on Yield and Product Characteristics2015 •
Scrap tyres represent a severe environmental problem that must be solved by developing technologies allowing the processing of high quantities of this residue. This work presents the results of pyrolysis oil and pyrolytic char production by intermediate pyrolysis of rubber recovered from scrap tyres. The influence of process variables such as particle size, temperature and reaction time on the characteristics of the products obtained was analysed. Maximal yields of 52.56 and 39.50 wt% of pyrolysis oil and pyrolytic char, respectively, were obtained, under operational conditions that favoured the production of pyrolysis oil. The products obtained were a pyrolytic char with a maximal surface area of 85.16 m2/g and fixed carbon content of 78.55 wt%; and pyrolysis oil with a higher heating value of 42.94 MJ/kg, real density of 0.948 g/mL, viscosity 2.29×10−3 Pa s and acidity between 0.39 and 1.57 mg KOH/g. The highest total aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylenes and ethylbenzene) yield in...
