Metro ridership is on the rise after years of decline.

According to the American Public Transportation Association, Metro has seen the largest percentage increase in riders across the entire country of any transit agency in the United States.

Since January through August of 2019, there have been two million more riders compared to this period last year.

WMATA says it's averaging about 706,000 trips per day and has seen 90 percent of commuters who use to ride the Blue and Yellow lines south of Reagan National Airport return to using the rails after the Metro summer shutdown.

ABC7's Sam Sweeney has more on this story in the above video.
