Research Topic(s): Visualizing Electrochemical Reactions
Faculty Mentor: Mohammad Rafiee - Chemistry

My name is Asayiel Alhajeri, and I mainly do undergraduate research in electrochemistry in the UMKC Chemistry Department alongside my faculty mentor, Dr. Rafiee. My undergraduate research looks at electrochemical reactions on the electrode surface and the resulting diffusion layer of the response. I got started with research when a student mentor of mine recommended I join her research team alongside Dr. Rafiee. We met to discuss the research team’s topic and goals, and I was given the opportunity to apply as a SEARCH grant recipient. On a day to day, I work in the Rafiee lab using microscope cameras to analyze electrically-driven color change reactions in diffusion layer cells. Undergraduate research has allowed me to practice my problem-solving skills and build my confidence in academic settings. I greatly benefited from having a faculty mentor and the chance to develop my communication skills.
