Sarah Shahi will seek a seat on the highest court in the land, as the star of ABC‘s Judgement drama pilot.
Penned by Joey Falco (Sleepy Hollow, The CW’s Charmed), the prospective series plays out over two timelines. Fifteen years from now, as Mia Bahari (played by Shahi) is being vetted for a Supreme Court seat, she recounts her experience at a prominent D.C. law firm in 2023, where the only thing more controversial than the cases was her messy love life, caught between two feuding brothers.
Now, with a Supreme Court seat on the line, all of Mia’s darkest secrets are at risk of coming out, threatening her nomination, her reputation, and her marriage.
According to our sister site Deadline, which broke the news of Shahi’s casting, in the event that Netflix’s Sex/Life, on which she stars, is renewed for Season 3, she ostensibly would do both — though ABC’s Judgement now stands as her “first position” (primary) commitment.
Sex/Life dropped its six-episode second season earlier this month, on March 2.
In addition to Sex/Life, Shahi’s TV credits include The L Word, the gone-too-soon Life, Fairly Legal and Person of Interest.
It’s probably the recovering attorney in me – okay, it definitely is – but it bothers me that this is spelled “Judgement” and not “Judgment.”
This is part of the script that’s online. In the final scene her colleague notices she uses the [correct] international spelling, suggesting she’s not American.
I don’t think there’s gonna be a season 3 of sex/life. I mean season 2 wrapped everything up. There’s no need for the series to continue.
Even if you and Beth below are right – and I personally haven’t seen it though it’s in my queue – if the season was only six episodes, it would not be hard for her to do both. You might be right storywise, but shorter seasons on streaming have given more flexiblity for actors to be in more than one show at once. Look at Pedro Pascal in Last of Us & Mandalorian (okay, a lot of voice work), Adam Scott in Party Down reboot & Severance, Allison Janney when she did both Mom & Masters of Sex, Matt McGrory in HWGAWM & OITNB; Allison Brie did some eps of Mad Men while on Community; etc. So yeah, maybe it’s done storyline wise, but if for any reason it’s not, there’s certainly precedent to do both, esp. with one having such short seasons.
Did you think Pedro’s not actually in the suit because his head is covered? LOL
Sex/Life is most definitely not getting a 3rd season…. That finale left no questions in the air and was very obviously written as the end.
Sarah Shahi has had regular TV roles playing a cop, a criminal, a lawyer, a prostitute, a stripper, an artist and now possibly a judge.
Was her goal to play literally every part in a script for Law and Order: SVU?
Oh, a one women L&O show… love it!
“In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups. The police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are her stories.”
Don’t forget a government assassin turned rebel fighter against a world-conquering AI. That was my favorite, even if it would be hard to fit into a Law & Order script.
Her role as Shaw, on Person of Interest, is my all time favorite.
Me too!!! I loved and miss the great and underrated Person of Interest!
I would have said “the gone-too-soon Fairly Legal” :)
I personally think it applies to both. Loved both of the series and was sad when each was cancelled.
… Judgement?
Excited to see Sarah Shahi coming in Judgement. Love her work.
I think you can see that more in Sex/Life….
“Joey Falco (Sleepy Hollow, The CW’s Charmed),”
Charmed, the 4th season of Sleepy Hollow, and also the friggin’ Heroes reboot. This is going to be the worst-written pilot all year.
Haha when i saw the writing credits, that was what i thought as well. But love Sarah Shahi, will give it a try if it does get picked up..
Agree with the others in case Netflix was considering it. Sex/Life is done. At least with Billie. Let Sarah Shahi move on.
I doubt ABC is going to order both shows. The Good Lawyer and Judgement. Judgement is similar to Jack & Bobby; Golden Boy. Both were cancelled after one season, even though it was a different time. Their live ratings were too poor back in the 2004/2005 fall season and the 2013 mid season. Networks would kill for those live numbers today. Especially, The CW, which was still two separate networks. It’s going to be one or the other.
God knows how much I’ve missed her. Please make it so. Thank you.
I’ve liked her in everything I’ve seen. Will give it a shot.
