The doctor is making a return.
Kate Walsh is bringing Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for Season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy.
The actress shared the news in a video posted on the official Grey’s Anatomy Instagram page that was captioned, “I need the day off. FOR THIS. NEWS!!!”
“Well, well, well would you look who it is. That’s right, my loves, Dr. Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and I’m so excited to be home again joining (series creator) Shonda (Rhimes), (title character Dr. Meredith Grey) Ellen (Pompeo) and the rest of the incredible cast,” Walsh, 53, said.
Walsh’s Addison was a famed gynecological and neonatal surgeon who joined the series in Season 1 as the estranged wife of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). The character was a regular for several seasons before landing her own spinoff series Private Practice, which aired for six seasons from 2007 to 2013.
According to Deadline, Addison will appear in several episodes but her storyline for Season 18 is still a secret.
“This season — 18 — just wait until you see what she has in store for you,” Walsh added.
Walsh’s comeback follows the return of past cast members such as Dempsey, Sarah Drew, Isaiah Washington, T.R. Knight, Chyler Leigh and Eric “McSteamy” Dane.
According to Deadline, Kate Burton will also be back reprising her role as Meredith Grey’s mother, Dr. Ellis Grey.
In an interview with People earlier this year, Walsh said that she would be up for coming back to the long-running medical drama.
“If they could get it done, I’d be happy to come back,” she said. “It definitely changed my life.”
Continuing, she added that she wasn’t surprised the show was still on the air.
“Sometimes I do feel like I get a little witchy about things,” said Walsh. “Even before it even had an airtime. I was just on as a guest, I was like, ‘This is a great show. I think it’s going to be really good.’ And here we are. Here they are.”
Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 18 premiere is set for Thursday, Sept. 30 on ABC and CTV.
