Initially released in 1990 by Telenet Japan, Valis III is a CD-ROM-only platform game for the PC Engine. It was released for the TurboGrafx-CD in North America in 1992.
The lead character, Yuko, is joined by two new playable characters – her sister Valna, and a young warrior called Cham. All the protagonists are female and the player can switch between them at any point outside of a boss battle. Each character has their own upgradable weapons, their own cut scenes, and a ground slide move which is new to series.
The action is fast and furious, with lots of running, jumping, sword-slashing, and explosions. Valis III is beautifully presented overall.
While not what I would call a classic PC Engine title, it is a game that will appeal heavily to anime and manga fans.
