Xolotl, the Aztec god of lightning and death, played a crucial role in Aztec mythology. In one legend, he transformed into an axolotl to avoid being sacrificed by the other gods. Fearing his incredible powers, the gods plotted to kill him. Xolotl, aware of their intentions, transformed into the aquatic axolotl, a creature of eternal youth and regeneration. He hid in the waters of Lake Xochimilco, evading his pursuers and preserving his divine essence in the form of this unique amphibian, forever associated with his name. Thus, Xolotl, the god of transformation, found refuge and immortality as the axolotl, a symbol of resilience in Aztec culture.
