Cenobita: Nombre que se les da a los monjes miembros de una comunidad religiosa que profesa la vida monástica. Habitaban un edificio llamado cenobio, que era administrado por un cenobita superior. Este movimiento cenobítico es una tradición monástica iniciada desde los tiempos más remotos del cristianismo.

Su onomástica es hoy 11 de Enero.

Nació en Capadocia “actual Turquía” en el año 423.

Vivió en Palestina, tierra santa.

En un viaje por Antioquia, San Simeón el Estilita, le profetizo que sería monje.

Muere en el año 529, a los 105 años de edad, acompañado de más de cuatrocientos monjes.

La vida del monje cenobítico estaba regulada por una colección de preceptos.
