Comparing all versions! (PC vs PS1 vs Sega Saturn)
This is one of the best platform games from the 90's, I love this game so much I have all versions: Sega Saturn, PS1 and PC, though I don't have the N-Gage version (but who likes that crappy handheld?) :p

Wierdly enough there are major differences between each versions (and even the NTSC,PAL and JP versions of each platform!)

So you might be asking yourself 'which is the definative of Pandemonium?' well here are some key facts:

Exclusive Passwords

PC Version
FARTALOT (replaces sfx with farting noises LOL!)
MOREBUGS (Debug info)
COMNDOWN (Level Select)
ILLBACK (Can't die)
CANTSTOP (Speed Greed)
PBWIZARD (Pinball Bonus round)
NEVERDED (Enemies respawn instantly)

Sega Saturn+PS1 Version (PAL)
ALMABHOL (All Levels unlocked)
HARDBODY (Can't die)
BORNFREE (Level Select)
VITAMINS (31 Lives)
INANDOUT (Allows you to quit to the level select)
BODYSWAP (Allows you to swap to Nikki or Fargus within the level!)
TOMMYBOY (Pinball Bonus Mode)
OTTOFIRE (Unlimited powerups)
TWISTEYE (Rotate camera)

Music tracks
Well after playing all versions, I have come to the conclusion that the PC version with it's better HQ music samples is trumped by the Saturn version, why? well because there are some tracks that have been removed and/or replaced with other levels from the PC version of this game wtf?
Some examples of this are as follows: (These were removed from the PC version)
Level 2 - Hollow Satirway A

Level 5 - Fungus Grotto B

Level10 - Spider Forest B

Level10 - Canopy Village (replaced with desert level)
Level11 - Soldger Barracks A

Some were replaced with exclusive tracks, only for the PC:

Level 17- Frozen Cavern

Music
PC Version
Now the PC version does sound good, but it has 7 tracks that have either been removed or replaced which sucks and I also forgot to mention the PC version doesn't loop like it should (it fades in and out).
Saturn Version
The Saturn version on the other hand has looping tracks (all of them and they don't fade in and out) and better background music than the PS1 version (not as good as PC, but atleast it has all the tracks and since it uses a hitachi audio processor, it definatly sounds better)
PS1 Version
The PS1 version has the worst sound out of all three versions, the music and SFX are quite compressed in addition the PS1 used everything on one processor (graphics, sound, etc) and it shows. The SFX sometimes can't be heard and blends in with the music in the background.

PC Version
Obviously the PC has the best framerate and resolution, but some textures have been removed and replaced with a blue colour (Nikki's Arms, Goon enemies) and because the game is running at 1080p, the game looks washed out and dated. And with the music fading in and out with removed tracks it could have been done better.
Saturn Version
I love the way the Saturn handles 3D, it's highly contrasted, saturated and gritty rendering gives the game more character. The colours look great! though sometimes the game can slowdown in some areas when playing on a Sega Saturn, but when playing the Saturn version (via SSF emulator) on the PC it runs at full speed. Even when you run the Saturn version on a PC at 1080, it doesn't look washed out and dated. The contrast effect acts like a filter and the sound is noticeably better than the PS1 version.
PS1 Version
For the most part it has the same graphic rendering as the PC version, but with a terrible resolution of 320x200p when played on a PS1, but when you decide to stick this game in your PC and run it with an emulator in 1080p it looks just like the PC version exept the sound quality is terrible and lacks all of the exclusive PC passwords.

I'm not a fan of the high-contrast shadows in the Saturn version, and there seems to be more aliasing going on, but I do like the vibrant colors and the style of the textures in it.

The PS1 version seems to have less aliasing going on, and it's textures seem sharper and crisper (possibly higher res?). However, the textures also seem all washed out and not as vibrant. Plus, If the audio quality is really as bad as you say, it makes the Saturn version the clear choice.

The PC version sounds like it's a bad port, which is too bad. It could have been the ideal version of the game, bridging the gap between the Saturn & PS1 versions.

Anyway, I've been looking to add this game to my collection for a while now, and this was really helpful for letting me figure out which version to get. Thanks! :)

Here is a new video of another comparison, this time with the Playstation version, remember all these version can be played on emulation so the PC can't miss out ;)

The music fading out in the PC version is pretty bad. I notice that the music files are easily accessible in the installation directory though. Wondering if I can get the PS1 music and use that instead.
The N-Gage version is the best and my personal fav

yes in fact you totally can just replace the mp3 files in the installation directory with what ever you want. The problem with the PC music is the tracks are only 1-2 mins long, so they fade out and restart too often. I found the PS1 ripped music online and am using that instead (the tracks are more like 4 mins long.) Not quite as good sound quality, but since the PS1 is how I remember the game I kind of prefer it.
The Saturn seems to use its built in synthesizer to render the songs in real time, so no way of ripping the music as I can see.

Good stuff man. Now I wanna play them all.

How about Pandemonium 2?
I'd love for 2 to come to Steam. I have both 1 and 2 on GOG and already have 1 here on Steam would buy 2 in a heartbeat if it was on Steam! :)

If the PC version seems too washed-out to you, adjust the Gamma setting in nGlide to 0.8
