2022 Raìca Aranzu
WINEMAKER: Cinzia Pellazza & Eugenio Bocchino
REGION: Sardinia, IT
VARIETY: Vermentino, Semidano, Nuragus
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
More elegance than power. Citrus and slightly peppery nose. Acid-savoury palate, with delicate citrus note, mediterranean herbs and soft finish.
New born label ‘Aranzu’, from Sardinian accents translate to ‘orange’. Young vines of Vermentino and some Nuragus and Semidano grape from vines just coming to production. Vineyard more inland and less effected by the wind. The grapes are harvested earlier to retain freshness. A very soft and subtle maceration for 14 days on skins in stainless steel vats.
'Raìca' from the Gallurese dialect, refers to the wooden stick made of Erica, which is used to support the bush vine in the area North-East of Sardinia. Cinzia Pellazza and Eugenio Bocchino, former producers of La Morra from Eugenio Bocchino winery, always been enchanted by Sardinia’s mediterranean landscape and dreamed of setting up a winery in Sardinia, also curious about trying their hand at making white wine. Their intrigue for the area’s native varieties led them to explore viticulture in this arid, sunny place that is highly influenced by pertinent wind. In 2016 they bought 7 hectares of land and a vineyard of a couple of hectares of Vermentino with plants that are almost 50 years old. They immediately work following the dictates of organic and biodynamic practicing, growing and planting native varieties such as Vermentino, Pascale di Cagliari, Nuragus and Semidano. Their goals is to create a ‘laboratory’ of sustainable viticulture, focusing on local traditions and native grapes varieties.
