Pige Four THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN January 29,1949 When a Fellow Welcomes Hospitality March Of Dimes Drive To Be Held On Campus A March of Dimes drive will be carried on at Western Carolina Teachers college with Mr. Stead- man Mitchell as chairman. Boxes for contributions will be placed at convenient locations on the campus and in the community. It has been suggested that the Western Carolina basketball team play a benefit game, the proceeds of which would go to the March of Dimes drive. Coach McConnell has agreed for his team to play but definite arrangements for the game have not as yet been made. The Student Senate has signified its willingness to help sponsor the drive and to aid it in any way possible. Askjor it either way ... both trade-marks mean the same thing. In an afternoon session, four plans for world government were analyzed in a panel discussion: The United Nations in Present World Affairs. The Plan of Clarence Streit, The Plan of Ely Culbertson, and The Plan of the United World Federalists. In the evening session Henry P. Brandis, Professor of law at the University of North Carolina, was the principal speaker. His topic constituted an outline of the World Federalists' over-all aim. This is, the establishing of a world government patterned along the lines of the American democracy. Miss Thomas spoke as a preliminary to the Western Carolina drive which is scheduled for April. While here she will work with Miss Freda Arnold, chairman of the WSSF committee, to help make plans for the drive. Dean Of Men Spoke To Alpha Phi Sigma Luther R. Baptist Student Union State Secretary Visited Western Carolina Campus James W. Ray, state Baptist student secretary, recently visited the campus of Western Carolina Teachers college. While he was here the Western Carolina branch of the Baptist Student Union council had a supper meeting with Mr. Ray at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Charles B. McConnell, pastor of the Cullowhee Baptist church. At that time plans were discussed for the various religious activities on the campus. Mr. Taff based his talk on the quotation "A fine life is a thought conceived in youth and realized in maturity." He stated that it was not necessarily the student with the most ability that made the most of life and that an average student with more than average ambition can realize his goals.
