Sony is reportedly developing a new portable PlayStation console. Rumours started circulating on the internet, implying that Sony may be planning to develop a successor to the PSP and PS Vita.

According to Insider Gaming, the new PlayStation handheld console will require a PlayStation 5 as part of its ecosystem. Nicknamed the ‘Q Lite’, it is not a cloud-streaming device but instead uses the Remote Play functionality to play games with the PlayStation 5.

The Q Lite is said to support streaming, allowing games to run at 60 frames per second with 1080p graphics. It's also been reported that this new handheld console will be released before the PS5 Pro, which is expected to launch during the 2024 holiday season.

While previous iterations of Sony’s handheld console were able to run independently without a base console, the Q Lite requires a PS5 to stream games through Remote Play, which is a feature Sony is pushing quite strongly recently.

Early prototypes indicate that the system will appear similar to a PlayStation 5 controller, but with a huge 8-inch LCD display in the centre. The device will have adjustable triggers for tactile feedback as well as the standard features of a handheld such as volume controls, speakers, an audio input jack, and more.
