SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas Border Coalition has praised the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for appointing C. LeRoy Cavazos-Reyna as its vice president for government and international relations.
Cavasoz-Reyna, a Rio Grande Valley native, is vice chairman of TBC, an advocacy group made up of elected officials and business leaders from Brownsville to El Paso.
“The Texas Border Coalition is excited to work with LeRoy in this role and we salute the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for continuing to make government and international affairs a chief priority for the organization,” said Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño.
Treviño chairs TBC. He said USHCC and its local chapters “have been steadfast friends and partners” of TBC for more than two decades.
“We appreciate the work they do to help border communities grow and prosper,” Treviño added.
“We’re particularly fortunate to have LeRoy represent TBC as our vice chairman for the coming year, serving on our executive committee and helping to advocate for and bring attention to the education and workforce, health care, border security, economic development and transportation needs of our communities.”
For his part, Cavazos-Reyna said it is “an honor and privilege” to accept the post at USHCC.
“I look forward to working with our board of directors, our USHCC team led by Ramiro A. Cavazos and our members to advocate for and expand the economic vibrancy of the Hispanic business community in America. It is critical that we reach across party lines, across borders, and throughout the country to evolve the mission of the USHCC to maximize impact for all Americans,” Cavazos-Reyna said.
In a news release, USHCC said that as part of its senior management team, Cavazos-Reyna will lead the USHCC’s non-partisan policy and political efforts before the United States Congress and other agencies within the federal government that support the Hispanic business community and population.
“Furthermore, he will evolve business development for our members in other countries with a concentration in Latin America as well as expand the diplomatic relationships of the USHCC,” the news release stated.
Most recently, Cavazos-Reyna served as senior manager of public affairs and communications for Arca Continental/Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.
“Arca Continental is considered the third largest bottler of Coca-Cola products globally, which has allowed for C. LeRoy to impact the public affairs, communications, and sustainability strategy of the company extensively in the United States, Mexico, and other countries in Latin America including Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina,” the USHCC news release stated.
Ramiro A. Cavazos, president & CEO of USHCC, used to work with Cavazos-Reyna at the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Cavazos said Cavazos-Reyna’s passion for the Hispanic business community began during his political and advocacy career working with government entities and nonprofit organizations along the U.S. Mexico border region.
“We are thrilled to welcome C. LeRoy to the USHCC team to lead our Government and International Affairs endeavors,” Cavazos said. “He is an expert in advancing legislation and advocacy efforts that create economic impact for the Hispanic business community. He will make a great addition to our team and help expand the presence of our corporate members and Hispanic Chambers across the country here in Washington D.C. and on the national stage.”
The USHCC news release notes that Cavazos-Reyna has more than 15 years of experience with him.
“In this role, he will guide, develop and communicate the USHCC’s annual policy platform and outline the organization’s position on access, management and control of capital, education and workforce development, healthcare, immigration, international trade and commerce; and technology and infrastructure,” the USHCC news release adds.
“The vice president of government and international affairs will play a key role in maintaining relationships with key Congressional offices and caucuses, business associations, political parties and USHCC chamber members ahead of the organization’s annual legislative summit March 31-April 2, 2020 in Washington D.C.”
Biographical details
- Cavazos-Reyna is a member of the Class of 2018 for the distinguished Texas Lyceum, a 40-year-old statewide leadership organization founded by the Honorable William Hobby.
- In 2019 he was named a “40 Under 40” honoree by the San Antonio Business Journal for his advocacy work and extensive collaborations in San Antonio and the border region of South Texas.
- He currently serves as the co-chairman of the Board for the Texas Border Coalition, a border advocacy group which advocate statewide and federally for issues affecting the binational relationship between the U.S. and Mexico.
- Furthermore, he is on the board of directors for the Center for Public Policy Priorities in Austin, a statewide research non-profit that provides data and policy recommendations to the Texas Legislature and other government entities.
Cavazos-Reyna is a graduate of one of the legacy universities of UT-Rio Grande Valley. He holds a Master’s in Public Administration as well as two Bachelors of Arts in Communication and Spanish.
