MCALLEN, RGV – Aeromar has announced enhancements to its flight schedules connecting McAllen via Mexico City to Acapulco, Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, San Luis Potosi and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.
The announcement came the day after Jeremy Santoscoy, deputy director of aviation at McAllen, gave a presentation about McAllen International Airport to visiting site selectors from Europe.
To mark the announcement, Aeromar is offering promotional introductory rates valid for purchase through February 15, 2019. “There is no better time to explore Mexico, with one‐way fares as low as $203*,” the company stated.

Flights to Mexico City from McAllen operate five times weekly with a quick, same‐terminal connection to the new destinations. Departure days and times from McAllen are at 15:00 hrs. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The lowest fares can be found only at www.aeromar.mx.

This showcases McAllen International Airport as our region’s only true International Airport, offering nonstop service to Mexico City, where travelers can now easily connect to some of Mexico’s most popular and beautiful tourist destinations,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling.
The visiting site selectors, numbering eight in total, are members of the Transatlantic Business Investment Council. They help European companies open manufacturing plants in the United States. Their visit to the Rio Grande Valley was hosted by the Rio South Texas Economic Council and organized by RSTEC executive director Matt Ruszczak.
In his presentation to the site selectors, Santoscoy said the passenger load flying from McAllen to Mexico City is mixture of business and leisure travelers.
“We are the only one (airport in the Rio Grande Valley) with commercial international service to Mexico City, via Aeromar, a regional carrier. Right now they promoting some connections to Acapulco, Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido and San Luis Potosi, non-stop via Mexico City,” Santoscoy said.
In addition to Aeromar, McAllen has Allegiant flying year-round to Las Vegas and seasonally to Los Angeles and Orlando, American Airlines flying to Dallas, and United Airlines flying to Houston.
Santoscoy said when you visit a city with a busy airport, it is a good indication that the city is busy. He pointed out that McAllen is the biggest airport in the Rio Grande Valley.
“We have about 46 percent of the market share. We are also the biggest general aviation airport in the Rio Grande Valley. We capture about 49 percent of all private operations. We have got about 39 percent of the registered aircraft in the RGV. This year we finished off at about 118 based aircraft, aircraft that have been here six months,” Santoscoy said.
Between commercial and general aviation McAllen International Airport generates about $150 million a year in economic activity, Santoscoy said, and creates about 3,500 jobs. He said over $103 million in wages and salaries go to employees.
With regard to improvements at the airport, Santoscoy said 90 percent of the funding comes from the federal government. He said the City of McAllen is working on its master plan for the airport, along with an improved cargo ramp design, and safety improvements on the airfield.
Asked if McAllen International Airport is working on additional brining in additional carriers, Santoscoy said: “We are always working at additional service. We have been pretty conservative on our approach. We don’t do maximum revenue guarantees or subsidize the flights.”
