Bacoo

  • Existent in mainly Guyana is the peculiar creature called the bacoo. In Trinidad they are more known as a ‘Buck’. Considered spirits, they are miniaturized beings that live in households and survive on milk and banana.

  • It is believed that they were brought to Guyana from Suriname and West Africa, where the small stature races, or ‘bakus’, were still bestowed as being with magical powers.

  • Known in West African language as little brother and short man, the bacoo is mischievous such that throw stones at houses and cause even more trouble within homes.

  • They are mainly active at night and if they are satisfied, they will answer the owner’s wishes. It quite simple to catch one by trapping it into a bottle and sealing the bottle with a cork.
