Kinnikuman is a manga created by the duo of Yudetamago, which is composed of Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada. The manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Jump, and received the Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga in 1985. An animated series was produced using the Limited animation technique.
The story involves Kinnikuman (his real name is Suguru Kinniku), a clumsy fool of a superhero, finding out he is the missing prince of the planet Kinniku, known for turning out the greatest superheroes in the universe. Being a clumsy fool, however, he must prove himself worthy of the throne. To do so, he enters into wrestling competitions and battles evil Chojin, ultimately culminating in a tournament between Kinnikuman and five pretenders to the throne (Kinnikuman Big Body, Soldier, Zebra, Mariposa, and Super Phoenix). Many of Kinnikuman's allies begin as villains (Ramenman, Buffalo Man, Ashuraman, Warsman), and extremely arrogant heroes (Terryman, Robin Mask, Rikishiman).
Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix Max put the Kinnikuman game series to a new level. Now, the game includes 33 characters from the anime (the highest to this point for a Kinnikuman game), including those who appear in the Second Generation (basically, the sons of the main characters). Also, the scenarios and its music themes will be easily recognizable for those who watched the anime series.
The movements of the characters are not a simulation of a real life wrestling fight, and in fact many characters do not even look human (you will find characters who are, literally, a "W.C. man", a "spring man", an Egyptian-looking guy with 6 arms, among other picturesque ones). The special attacks of these characters are a mix of acrobatic and very spectacular movements, just like in the anime cartoons. There is also a Tension Meter, which will indicate the ideal moment to execute a special attack.
In the game options you have the History Mode (classic mode in which the characters follow the plot of the anime, and also have conversations between them), the Versus Mode and the Stage Mode (mode where you will have to dispute fights with several kinds of added difficulties and handicaps).
