Tom Selleck looks almost unrecognizable as he ditches signature mustache for scruffier facial hair

Tom Selleck started No Shave November early.

The “Magnum, P.I.” star looked nearly unrecognizable as he ditched his signature mustache for a full beard while stepping out for a rare public outing on Sept. 25.

Selleck, who has rocked his trademark ‘stache ever since he became a household name in the 1980s, sported his newly scruffy facial hair as he ran errands in the San Fernando Valley in California.

He wore a plain dark blue T-shirt and styled his graying hair in a simple comb-over.

The 78-year-old actor had not been spotted in public for more than a year when he was photographed driving his silver pickup truck near his residence.

Although he lives a very private life, Selleck has been starring as Frank Reagan on “Blue Bloods” since 2010.

The CBS show has been on a filming hiatus due to the writers strike that began in May. However, the Writers Guild of America finally reached a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers earlier this week.

Aside from working on “Blue Bloods,” Page Six reported in 2019 that Selleck was writing a memoir covering his decades-spanning career plus his life “away from the camera.” There has not yet been a release date announcement or any further word on the book’s progress.

In 2020, the “Three Men and a Baby” star was honored with a Paley Award for his award-winning career and dedication to media education initiatives.

“From a kid who ‘watched’ the radio to a young man who languished on the bench of the USC basketball team, well, it’s a long way from there to here,” he said in a statement at the time

“To be honest I am not sure where ‘getting here’ lands you, so I am grateful for the Paley Center’s invitation to a celebration of ‘getting here,’ wherever that may be. I am honored to support the organization’s mission and look forward to reflecting on the past and the future. Many thanks.”

In his personal life, Selleck is celebrating 36 years of marriage with his actress wife, Jillie Mack, this year.

The duo tied the knot in 1987 and share a 34-year-old daughter named Hannah. (The actor also has a 57-year-old son, Kevin, with his ex-wife, Jacqueline Ray.)

Selleck’s life away from the Hollywood spotlight was crafted very carefully over the years.

“I’m a fairly private person,” he told People in 2020. “And I’ve always treasured the balance between work and time with my family. It’s always about them.”
