The “Gossip Girl” reboot is lining up its cast.
HBO Max announced Wednesday that Tavi Gevinson, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat and Zion Moreno have joined the show, which will be set in the world of Manhattan private schools eight years after the events of the original show in a landscape where social media has changed the nature of gossip.
Gevinson is the biggest name of the bunch, and the most meta casting choice. The 23-year-old founder of Rookie magazine, which closed in 2018, put her on the map as an influencer. She made her feature film debut in 2013’s “Enough Said” and has since had roles in “Person to Person” (2017) and on “Scream Queens” (2015).
The newly casted stars will join Kristen Bell, who is returning to do the voiceover narration, which she did in the original series; 17-year-old Emily Alyn Lind, who will play co-lead Audrey, a new character; and Whitney Peak, also 17, and an actress on another reboot, “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”
The original show aired from 2007 to 2012 on the CW and made stars of its young cast members, including Blake Lively and Penn Badgley. The reboot will be helmed by original “Gossip Girl” bigs, creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and producer Joshua Safran. Talking to The Post in October, Schwartz teased the possibility of original cast members returning.
“We loved working with all of them, and if they want to come back, we would be superexcited about that,” he said.
The “Gossip Girl” reboot does not yet have an air date on HBO Max, but it’s expected to come out this year.
