The fourth season of Borgen created again by Adam Price is set to premiere on DR in 2022, followed by a global launch on Netflix.

Other new cast additions besides Følsgaard and Tønnesen include Özlem Saglanmak (Follow the Money), Simon Bennebjerg (The Legacy), Johanne Louise Schmidt (DNA), Magnus Millang (Another Round), and Peter Zandersen (Ride Upon the Storm).

Reprising their roles are Sidse Babett Knudsen as politician Birgitte Nyborg, this time in charge of Foreign Affairs, and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as media specialist Katrine Fønsmark, now head of the news department for a large, nationwide TV station.

Other returning cast members include Søren Malling (as Torben Friis), Signe Egholm Olsen (Anne Sophie Lindenkrone), Mikael Birkkjær (Philip Christensen), Lisbeth Wulff (Pia Munk), Lars Mikkelsen (Søren Ravn), Laura Allen Müller Smith (Nadia Barazani), Jens Albinus (Jon Berthelsen), Lars Knutzon (Bent Sejrø), Peter Mygind (Michael Laugesen), and Morten Kirkskov (Niels Erik Lund).

Følsgaard said: “5-6 years ago, I lived in England for a period of time. When I told people over there that I was from Denmark, it wasn’t Michael Laudrup, Queen Margrethe nor Aqua they started to talk about; it was Borgen. Everyone had seen it…”. I look forward to getting started with the production and to become a part of Borgen's universe,” said the actor.

The fourth season is written by Adam Price with Emilie Lebech Kaae (Ragnarok, The Chestnut Man) and Maja Jul Larsen (Cry Wolf, Borgen), with Per Fly (Follow the Money) serving as conceptual director. The series is produced by Stine Meldgaard Madsen and Michel Ryddeskov of SAM Productions, with SAM’s co-founder Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen as executive producer.

The first three seasons of Borgen produced by DR Drama were sensational hits worldwide between 2010-2013. With the new season, DR’s Head of Drama Christian Rank says his ambition is both to lift Borgen by making its universe timely, new and exciting, and at the same to be true to the qualities that made the political drama so popular throughout the world.
