ABOUT 4-H

4-H is a national organization which helps young people develop life-long knowledge and skills to become engaged citizens. With over 65,000 youth members enrolled in community clubs across the state, 4-H is the largest youth development program in Texas. 4-H is a voluntary, non-formal, educational program. Through various learning experiences, 4-H provides opportunities for youth to gain leadership, citizenship, and life skills that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. The 4-H program gives youth the opportunity to explore and pursue their interests while making friends through both non-competitive and competitive experiences such as 4-H club meetings, projects, contests, educational workshops/programs, tours, community service, camps, and more on county, district, state, and even national levels. 

 

WHO CAN PARTCIPATE?

Youth:

Youth may participate in the 4-H year from September 1st of grade three through August 31st following the completion of grade twelve, with these age restrictions:  

  • Minimum age – 8 (as of September 1 of the new 4-H year, in addition to being in the 3rd grade)  
  • Maximum age – 18 (as of September 1 of the new 4-H year)
    • Clover Kids (youth in kindergarten – 2nd grade) may participate in certain age-appropriate 4-H opportunities and may be enrolled at no cost

Adults:

Even after you graduate from high school, you can still be involved in 4-H as a volunteer. Volunteers are the heart of the 4-H Program.  We can only offer as many clubs and projects as we have volunteers to lead or direct them. Adults may serve as volunteers in capacities such as club/project leaders, planning committee members, and more. All direct volunteers must pass a criminal background check, complete required training, and have their enrollment application approved prior to fulfilling any volunteer duties for AgriLife Extension. 

 

4-H ENROLLMENT 

The Texas 4-H year officially beings on September 1st and ends on August 31st. Enrollment opens on August 15th.  Each year, all former and new 4-H members, parents, and volunteers directly involved in 4-H must enroll/re-enroll for the current 4-H program year. An applicant becomes a 4-H member or volunteer after completing and submitting individual online enrollment via 4HOnline at http://texas.4honline.com, paying a participation fee, and receiving registration approval. Once 4-H enrollment is complete, 4-H families will be added to our 4-H email list and will receive announcements and reminders for upcoming Nacogdoches County 4-H events and opportunities. 

Annual Participation Fees 

    • Youth Club Member Participation Fee:  
      • $25.00 – Discounted enrollment fee – August 15th – October 31st  
      • $30.00 – Regular enrollment fee – November 1st – end of 4-H year  
      • $10.00 – Clover kid enrollment fee  
    • Adult Volunteer Application Fee:
      • $10.00
