Sonic Team game designer wants to make a new Billy Hatcher adventure

Sonic Team designer, Nakamura Shun, who worked on the original Billy Hatcher game for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003, as well as Sonic Frontiers, has said on Twitter that he would “like to make” a new Billy Hatcher adventure. Mr. Shun made the comment when he was replying to a Twitter post from the official SEGA Forever account which highlights classic SEGA games of the past. Whether the entirety of Sonic Team would want to revisit the long-dormant franchise remains unknown, but it would be lovely to get a new adventure starring Billy Hatcher.

  1. It must be some sort of trend to wait 20 years to for a sequel. Seems more and more developers are doing this.

It’s going to be 2 years to find a new team, another year to finally start, and at least 5 more years to finish. 26 years. Wow. Then after that do nothing.

  2. Sequels that took forever Crash 3, Rayman Legends, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Pikmin 3, Tropical Freeze, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Super Strikers, Grand Theft Auto 5, Banjo-Tooie, Star Fox, Caption Falcon, Sonic Adventures 2. I hope Astral Chain wont be on this list and started the sequel immediately.
Make one game then don’t do nothing after that. Even developers seeing their game sales and great reviews still won’t break the 20 +year cycle to start the sequel immediately. Unless it’s EA sports, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy(Squre Enix needs to teach these 20+ how to make games immediately), Call of Duty, Mario Tennis, Let’s Dance, Pokémon, Mario or Zelda.

    1. Sonic Adventure released in 1999 and SA2 development started shortly after, itself being released in 2001. That’s two years- in what universe would that have “took forever”?

Same with Banjo Tooie. And Crash had a game every year after his debut, from 1996 to 2008.

Metroid Prime released in 2002, with Echoes releasing two years later and then Corruption in 2007. That’s an average of two and a half years between games.

You list terrible examples trying to prove that developers are “lazy” and “take 20+ years to make a sequel.” What’s next, you’re going to accuse Mojang of lazily updating MineCraft instead of just making MineCraft 2?

  3. I would totally be down for a Billy Hatcher sequel. Can we get an HD port of the original while we’re at it? Probably a good idea to remind people who this character is.

    1. Yeah, I know you’re not serious.

There is no one egg that Billy rolls. Also Billy doesn’t roll the Giant Egg at all. It’s a large MacGuffin the antagonists are after, and he has to stop them.
