Rockville’s Football Head Coach, Jason Lomax, Announces He’s Stepping Down

Rockville High School varsity football head coach Jason Lomax has announced he will be stepping down from the position.

Lomax, a 1997 graduate of Rockville High School, was named the school’s varsity football coach in 2018 following an 0-10 season and was able to get the team headed in the right direction in just his first year, going 4-6. He followed that up with a Coach of The Year award in 2019 and has been instrumental in rebuilding the Rockville football program. His full message can be seen below:

“To my Rockville Football Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to step down as Varsity Head Football Coach at Rockville. This is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make because of how much I love this team, this school, and this community.

My grandparents moved to this community in the 1950s, I grew up here, my wife grew up here, and we raise our family here today. This is way bigger to our family than just football, this community is ingrained in us. This was not only a dream job for me, but a dream situation for my family to be a part of.

This community has wrapped its arms around my family and helped us through some of the most difficult times in our life. I am blessed to be a part of it and can’t begin to express my gratitude

That being said, it is time for me to shift my focus from coaching to being the best husband and father I can be. My family has supported me every step of the way and would have supported me coaching until the end of time. This is why I had to look in the mirror and make this difficult call for several reasons. My wife and daughter have endured countless health issues over the last six plus years and I want to be there to support them anyway I can. My son began playing competitive sports last year and it was difficult for me to miss his games and practices in his first year of football.

I also need to begin taking care of my own health which is always last on my priority list. love my family more than anything in this world and felt this was the right time to step away. I hope everyone understands and respects my decision.

Thank you to Mr. Hayes, Mrs. Benson, Ms. Pyles, and all those who gave me the opportunity to come home and live out my dream to lead my alma mater. Thank you to the RHS staff for always supporting my kids and helping them reach their potential in the classroom. Thank you to all the parents, sponsors, and community members for the countless amount of support to the program and our kids.

Thank you to the moco football coaches and community who rallied to help my family when my daughter needed treatment. Thank you to my coaches. I couldn’t ask for a better group of men to mentor our kids and I was blessed to get to share the sidelines with you all. You are my brothers and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you.

Thank you to my players past and present for giving our program and our community all you had. You did things no other group has done before at Rockville and you should be proud of it. You will never know how much our time together has meant to me. Being around you all has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. We are family forever and I am always here for you if you ever need me. I love you all.

Finally, thank you to my family. Without you, I would not be the man I am today. I love and appreciate all three of you so much. Though this chapter closes, my story is far from over. Coaching is something that is a part of you and who you are. I won’t be able to stay away forever, I will be back! Ram for Life! HORNS UP!
