This is the best little fancy Italian deli I've ever experienced. Every element of this place is perfect, from menu to ingredients to the paper sandwich wrap.
Yes, it is expensive. But sandwiches are going to cost $16 if they're full of perfectly prepared top quality ingredients. Just because you put something on bread doesn't make it any cheaper to produce. These sandwiches are in another realm of wonderful ness, and it definitely merit paying twice the price of a footlong full of nothing at Subway.
Two beers on tap, small cool wine list
Staff is sweet and wonderful. Vibe is simultaneously cozy and cool.
I've loved the Pirlo, Il Capo, La Marcella, and the pazerotti (fried parmy potato puffs). I trust everything on this extremely thoughtful and delicious menu. Chef clearly knows Italian cuisine and culture, has excellent taste, and great workers.
The sandwiches are made on schiacciata, an exquisite light, crispy, salty, olive oil doused bread similar to focaccia. It's so good, nearly anything inside would be delicious just from the great oil and salt. As evidenced by better-known sibling Stellina Pronto several blocks away, these know how to bake.
Sweet eclectic little pantry with wine and beer bottles for sale, oil, condiments, sweets, and canned treats. Again, it's clear the owners have some deep and rich Italian love.
I love Petaluma, and this is one of the reasons. This is the first place I will take a guest.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 19, 20241 check-in
I stumbled upon this particular shop, thinking it was a bakery only to find out it's the original sandwich version of the actual bakery that opened about a block over! Lol I already have lunch, but wanted something for dessert and I ended up getting a tortoni and red wine. Sadly, they don't have any coffee here, but the server was incredibly apologetic and cute as he told me that their other store down the street had more pastries and an array of coffees. Lol if I had only known these two stores were the same or had the same owners, I might have gone there first since this particular store is open an hour later till 3 PM and the bakery closed at 2 PM. I walked into this Italian marketplace at 1:55 PM. Goodness! I may as well stay here! Lol.
They played somewhat random music, but maybe it was just a playlist? But the ambience was very relaxed and I was able to get some work done as I waited a good 20 minutes for my dessert to defrost enough so I could eat the ice cream portion of the cream , the wine was delicious and paired, wonderfully with the ice cream as well as the granola topping the dessert itself.
I will definitely come back here for lunch since this particular location has different types of bread and their bakery version only has flatbread which I rather enjoy but it's nice to know I could go a block over and around the corner to get actual bread as well as flatbread. Lol still too great cafes owned by the same owners and I love both of them!! I think I'll just go to the bakery first and pick up pastries before I come to get a sandwich at this location. Lol I'm a sucker for bread and pastries! HeeHelpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 2, 2024
Obsessed! The sandwiches are delicious, we'll-made, unique. Our favorite is The Carmine, followed by Il Michaelangelo.
The panzarotti (fried potato cakes) were a gorgeous surprise. They look like beignets, but are not sweet -- pillowy potato covered with crispy deliciousness.
The atmosphere is so fun, with Italian pop of the 60s playing, tinned fish and bottles available for purchase, and poster art.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jackie C.Petaluma, CA154822May 1, 2024
Gorgeous menu, authentic Italian recipes + California accents, using both imported and locally sourced ingredients, bright and fresh decor, friendly staff.
Had the porchetta sandwich (Michelangelo) and highly recommend.
Homemade focaccia, outstanding but tightly edited menu, attention to detail. Nice lighting.
Nice selection of culinary gifts/wines and to go items. Pick up some breadsticks, a tin of amaretti and a bottle of wine on the way to your next dinner party.
These sandwiches and salads are not inexpensive but every ingredient is excellent--so the value is in the quality and experience.
For the price of a sandwich here I would like to see a handful of arugula and some vinaigrette, pickled veg (giardinera) or chips on the side.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 8, 2024
Italian - Deli style restaurant with retails areas where there are olives, pasta, beer, wine, & many other jarred / canned items are sold. Interior was well lit between natural light & over head lighting. There are chairs to booth seating along the right wall of the space with some high-top counter widow-front seating towards the front.
This spot is a perfect LOCAL alternative to the big-name sandwich chains.
This spot has quality ingredients that you can taste. This place is perfect for lunch. I went on a Monday evening & there was seating to spare. However, during a lunch hour, I would prepare to take-away considering this is GREAT FOOD, there may be little to no seating on a busy day. WORTH IT, dine-in or dine-out!
Been meaning to try 'Stellina's Alimentari' after seeing it under the 'hot & new places' on Yelp! Today was thee day & I am so glad I did!
I had been studying the menu, days & moments before entering the restaurant but when I arrived I was flooded with decisions, options, & the want to try it all!
I was greeted by friendly staff & was given a moment to study the menu to figure out what I wanted. With some helpful assistance from the girl at the counter, I was able to decide on my order!
My order: #1 La Marcella a sandwich with mortadella, pistachio cream, arugula, straciatella + chopped pistachios & a side order of Cucumber Salad []
My sandwich was insanely good with a nice little snap of the chewy bread. The balance on the scale from 1 to 10, impeccable! Between the thin-cut lightly-salty mortadella, the creaminess of the pistachio cream, & the surprise crunches of chopped pistachios, my palette was tantalized by every bite MUST TRY!
The side of Cucumber Salad was the perfect order of freshness to pair with my sandwich. Crunchy cubes of cucumber with strings of red onion & milk feta. Perfect flavor combo. Only complaint is whisk there was more feta or smaller pieces of feta to last the whole serving. Delicioso none the less
Thank you for making a killer sandwich & for hosting my dining experience.
Cheers to much success in 2024Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2 - Susan L.Irvine, CA20273May 1, 2024
Delicious food. The quality of ingredients was super high. Still thinking about the sandwiches we had and can't wait to go back. It was so lovely to have the perfect glass of wine with it. Don't miss out on their chocolate chip cookies!

Wow!!!! I have been waiting for an Italian deli like this in this area for a long time, and wow, does Stellina Alimentari deliver. I will definitely go back every time I'm in Petaluma!
Walking in, really is walking into a portal to another country. The tile market items and everything else really bring you in. I ordered the #1. La Marcella, which is mortadella, pistachio cream, arugula, straciatella, and pistachio. Wow flavor bomb! The focaccia was lovely and the sandwich was so well balanced.
I ate it as I was driving home, it was so good, I even saved some for my wife, because she needed to try it!Helpful 1Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 23, 2023
It's the new Italian sandwich shop opened in Petaluma and I'm excited to give it a try.
I ordered #10 La Bellucci which is all vegetarian. I was curious about the mushroom pate in it and it tasted great!! I don't miss meat at all eating this sandwich!! The only thing I'm not sure about is the bread. It's kinda breaking apart so I'm not able to hold it like a sandwich. It's fluffy but too light to hold the ingredients in the sandwich so it's kinda messy to eat.
For dessert, I got Tortoni because I had no idea what that is. I'm so glad I'm being adventurous to try it. It's like an almond flavor ice cream with crumbles at the bottom and on top. Each bite has different textures and flavor profiles. I'll definitely get this again when I go back!
This place has many local beer selections and staff are friendly! Definitely a nice addition in the neighborhood!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Nov 2, 2023First to Review
Super excited that Stellina Alimentari is finally open! It's a small, Italian deli, grocer, and bottle shop that occupies the space of the former Thistle butcher shop. I'm happy they kept the pig though, which you'll see prominently featured in front of the shop.
In terms of the pantry items, there are a lot of dried goods like pasta, grains, rice, etc - all pretty high end, if price is any indication. There's small section of tinned seafood as well, just like they offer at Pronto.
The deli offers pre-made salads and sandwiches made to order. We had the "La Marcella", which was absolutely delicious and quite reminiscent of a sandwich I ordered in Florence at All'Antico Vinaio called "La Paradiso". The house-made schiacciata is made super thin, has a crispy outer crust and tender, airy interior, and serves as the perfect vehicle for whatever you're craving in sandwich form. The mortadella in La Marcella is sliced very thinly and was perfectly complemented by the pistachio cream and straciatella. A wonderfully simple, yet very delicious sandwich!
We also tried Il Michelangelo, their porchetta sandwich. This one was served on Della Fattoria's meyer lemon rosemary bread. The porchetta was so moist and flavorful and although there wasn't a lot of skin in our sandwich, what was there was very crispy! With the salsa verde, which itself was quite oily, the sandwich was a bit heavy. The choice of using the meyer lemon rosemary bread helped keep things in balance and the rosemary was a nice complement to the porchetta.
The bottle shop is very small (~30 wines) and features a selection of both local and Italian wines in the $20-70 range. Prices are higher than you'll find at other retail stores by about 20-40%, depending on the bottle, but it's a great option if you want to dine in and enjoy a bottle of wine. I'm not sure if they charge a corkage on top of the bottle price. They also have some wines by the glass, though I didn't get to see what they had on offer. I'm not sure if it's the placement of the bottle shelves near the front window, but several of the bottles were warm to the touch and I wouldn't want to be the one to shell out $65 to find out whether the wines were heat damaged.
I'm really looking forward to working my way through the sandwich menu as there were several options that sounded really delicious! If you haven't been yet, I'd definitely recommend checking it out!Helpful 5Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dec 30, 2023
We were so excited to test out the new Italian sandwich spot getting rave reviews in Petaluma. The decor is minimalist chic with a counter to order, some provisions for sale, and about four tables for dine in service. We ordered our sandwiches to go but ended up staying. We got a #9 and #11. Hands down the 9 was the better order, the 11 desperately needed some sauce for the crunchy French bread. Other than that one small mishap we had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning.
