Simple, fun and local is how I'd describe F Street Station. It definitely has it's own vibe and you'll either love it or you'll hate it but it's where you'll find many of the locals hanging out.
Beer is served from Mason jars which keeps it simple and fun. The place gets pretty busy in the evenings with standing room only sometimes. Sit at the bar and you'll have some engaging conversations with the ladies at the bar. They tell it how it is without a filter and I love it.
They have a simple menu with a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and entrees. In my opinion they have the BEST halibut 'n chips in town. So delicious. There's a Texas sized portion or the Alaska sized portion depending on how hungry you are. There's often a daily special as well listed on the chalk board on the back wall.
Give it a try but if it's not your vibe that's okay...there's other places to enjoy in town.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 20, 2024Updated review4 check-ins
Still the best restaurant/bar in town. A good mix of locals and tourists, where everybody seems to be happy.
This was a return visit for us. We visited this location every day during our visit to Anchorage. Be prepared to wait as the place is packed most of the time.
The grilled halibut sandwich is amazing. We also had the salmon spread, fresh oysters, steamed clams, and fried calamari. The beer is always cold. The service is always great.
We will return.
Note: they do not offer to go orders, but you can take leftovers.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Jun 15, 2022Previous reviewThis place is fantastic. The flight attendant recommended this place and what a great place to eat and drink.
Located just around the corner from the Hilton, it was very convenient.
All of the food that came out of the open kitchen looked amazing. Everything that we tried over several visits was perfect. This maybe the best restaurant in Anchorage.
The only downside is that you have to wait for a stool to open up. - Feb 11, 20244 check-ins
I am going to echo a few other comments from some fellow yelpers first. F Street station is an institution for me. I came here for the first time about 18 years ago and I stop in nearly every time I am in town. This is good and bad, I have had all sorts of experiences in here over the years and I can understand some negative comments because you can't please everyone and I am sure some have had some legit bad experiences, nowhere is perfect every day but I have to tell you, this place brings a smile to my face every time I stop in. It's a small bar/restaurant that can get really really busy. Why you ask? Because the food is delicious and it is a great value. Sure their prices have gone up but it is still an excellent value. The food is bar food but it's upscale bar food. Chef and his team turn out consistently delicious hearty and generous meals. I have had almost everything in here and I always come back for the steamed clams, the steak sandwich and a basic Caesar salad. Full bar and a good selection of beers on draft and can/bottle served in ice cold mason jars.
The staff? Well, a lot of reviews say the staff is rude. Um, I have on occasion seen what you are talking about. Maybe. But I think you should take a look in the mirror before deciding who is rude. It's a high volume small bar that sees a bunch of travelers and locals alike. It can get a little crazy in there. While I am not saying anyone needs to be rude, I am saying relax, you might be the jackass.
I think I would call the bartenders nonsense good people that have been around the business for a long time. I like em. You take care of them and be nice, my experience tells me they will take great care of you.
The cheese? Yes have some cheese, grab a beer and visit with the locals, the guests and the staff. They are all great people.
I will be back to F Street the next time I am in town and I am really looking forward to it!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Shōn D.Abbott Loop, Anchorage, AK651115Mar 30, 2024

My wife asked me to take her here today. It was about 1:45 on Saturday, and we both had the Beer Battered Halibut with fries. Was very delicious! Nice place to have a meal! Parking was free. Thank you, F St. Station!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Hoai Huong P.Seattle, WA01818Apr 24, 2024
I came at 6 PM for a solo dinner and the place was hopping, but there were about five seats open at the bar. I had the onion soup and the escargot. Both were delicious. If you don't eat that much bread , you could probably tell them to go light on the baguette (which was ok). I only had soda water, but the selection went really big. Great service. I would come again.

It's been 4 years since my first review so I figured I'd give you an update. I've been about 100 times since then & thats no joke!! This place has incredible food at amazing prices.
The servers are amazing, all beautiful women and I love that! They are quick on their feet and offer great service with a smile!
Depending on the day and time it can be tough to get in here though. Friday between 6-9pm ?! You'll be standing and waiting for a table. But gosh is it worth the wait. Every day they offer a lunch and dinner special. Some of my favorites to note are the soups! Clam chowder, potato bacon and of course the signature French onion. Which NO one in Anchorage comes close too. Their Friday French Dip lunch special is a favorite but get there early (opening @ 11am) (for kitchen) because they will sell out of their specials!
I'll add some photos of the great meals I've had over the past 4 years.
Thanks for always serving up a good time and great food !!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Apr 22, 2019Previous reviewOh F STREET! What do I not love about this place?!! The chefs are amazing and soo nice if you get the chance to sit at their bar! The service is always good; I've never had a bad meal here either! If you want THE BEST Chicken Fried Steak in Anchorage you must check them out! Sadly it's only a Special on Monday's but sooooo worth it!!

Best Food Downtown! - Sep 2, 2023
When you get right down to it, I'm a pretty simple guy. While I can appreciate a virtuoso performance on the plate, all I really need is good food and drink. F Street really takes style over substance to heart.
- Drafts are served in mason jars.
- Food is placed on the plate by cooks and servers, not food artists.
- And, of course, there's the communal 25 pound block of cheddar.
That's not just a euphemism: there's a massive block of cheese sitting on the bar, and patrons are welcome to shave off a piece. Everyone seems to understand that they should place the plastic wrap back on top of the cheese when they're done. The cheese is not the highlight of the experience, but it is pretty cool.
The bartender was quick with our drinks. The Moscow Mule was strong, and of course they have a nice compliment of beers from Alaska.
She also told us that the salmon was fresh today. While they wouldn't make a salmon sandwich (though they do have a halibut sandwich), they did serve it on a salad.
The salmon was phenomenal...there's nothing quite like freshly caught, freshly baked salmon from Alaska. The rest of the salad? The Caesar dressing is excellent, but the rest of the salad is nothing special. That's not a problem when the salmon is this good.
I liked it so much that I ordered a salad to go. It was then that I learned that they don't, technically, do carry out. They will bring you the food you want on a plate, with styrofoam boxes, and you have to box it up yourself. Not a big deal, but not exactly a selling point.
It was a Saturday night, and it was busy, but the service was great. And, there was a line out the door of people waiting to be seated. They know they have a good thing here. No frills, but who cares when the food and service is that good?Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 1 - Dec 16, 2023
One of my favorite meals while in Anchorage (so good I went twice). Seating is limited but, we were able to grab a couple of spots at the bar top. Their menu items were decently priced and consisted of soups, salads, sandwiches and fuller entrees (mostly seafood). My first visit, I enjoyed a turkey sandwich. The second visit, I had their sautéed shrimp and scallops with added noodles to make it a pasta. Definitely recommend!

I went back again just last month and the food is still off the charts amazing. Great atmosphere and excellent service. If you are lucky enough, Lori will be your server. She is hilarious, on point, and one of the best servers ever. If you're in downtown Anchorage, stop in. You don't want to miss a great meal.
Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1Feb 9, 2022Previous reviewWe didn't want to walk too far, so we decided to stop in here and try them out for dinner. Definitely a locals' hangout, but the bartender, Jill was awesome, the food was off the charts, and it was a fun atmosphere.
I ordered the F Street Pasta (I know, who eats pasta at a bar) and it was some of the best I've ever had. I actually had to go back and look at the menu to see what was all in it, but it didn't matter. The flavours melded together amazingly well. My friend had the shrimp basket and said it was some of the best she's had during our week here in Anchorage. She ate it all. I think this was the first place we both finished our food. Damn good! Worth stopping in and enjoying. - Bob L.Winchester, TN1228877Nov 16, 2023Updated review
Always a good stop... open LATE... kitchen open until AT LEAST 0045. Last call at 0200, if "memory" serves.
Daily special go fast. Great food, great service from MOST of the staff.. Laura, however, is the one to avoid... all others pleasant to deal with, but honestly--not sure how Laura is still around!!! Should've been fired YEARS ago!
Free "display" cheese... long historical story... plenty of tap and bottled choices.
One of my favorites, in spite of one staff member.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Oct 26, 2017Previous reviewFaith in F-Street station is restored... The waitress from my previous visit was either let go, fired, or quit.
Service was outstanding, our waitress polite and attentive. GREAT recovery from my previous visit and review 11 months ago.
Be sure to checkout their daily specials posted on their wall. I had the salmon special with veggies and wild rice. We sat at the grill bar and the team work displayed by the two chefs working the orders was OUTSTANDING as well.
Faith restored.Nov 21, 2016Previous reviewIf I could separate food quality from customer service... 4.5 for food... Minus 1 for service...
So I'm talking up the place to the guys (good food mind you)... I've been here NUMEROUS times while working in/out of Anchorage as a cargo/passenger crew member. But that was a few years back... This was one of my first trips back in about 3 years... So, it's been a while, but F-street was my first choice of the MANY old haunt we'd go to for dinner.
We walk in, still not sure if the guys I'm with would like to eat there. Grab a couple of menu's off the bar.
Decide to stay and sat at a high top near the front window. A few minutes go by, grab a few slices of the "display cheese" and looking over the beer on tap... Older Waitress (could've been the owner for all I care) says in a rude tone... "I was COMING OVER"... (1st mistake)
She came over to take our order... Saw the extra menus in our hand and says "What, the menus at the table are defective some how?" (2nd mistake). I'm pretty livid at that point and ready to walk out. Thought I'd lighten the mood and let it go. And explained we didn't see 'em and asked if there's a problem with having the "extra" menus. She mumbled something.
So... I see a pepper grinder at the bar (after, of course, I see that our table didn't have on-GOD FORBID we'd have TWO at the table. Lunch comes, and of course the smart ass in me had to explain and ask... "I grabbed a pepper grinder from the bar... I HOPE that was ok?" "Sure" she snidely said "since you didn't have one". Her 3rd or 4th FU with me...
I'm normally a fair tipper 20-25% for good service... But she received exactly what her customer service deserved... Zilch, zero, nada. $0.00, just a note on my receipt
"I've come to F-street often and your "customer service" needs a lot of work. I won't be back"
Our waitress was a smart @$$ and I didn't appreciate her attitude nor her attempt to pass it off as "humor".
